I’ve just tried exactly and no luck here.
I’ve also just manually updated to the latest and newest 7.11 version and no difference.
What I will say is that if i uninstall Plex from my Fire TV Stick 4K and reinstall it, the first clip I try to watch will actually play but it stutters a whole lot. As soon as a adjust any settings or watch a second video I get this error every time!
It’s driving me insane. I have been in contact with Plex via email about this exact issue and posted a link to this thread and the replies i’ve received do not fill me with confidence.
I’ve asked them if they could at least post in here to give us all some form of update but they do not sound willing to do so.
I also said that I would love to become a Plex Pass member but not until this issue has been resolved.
I just can’t for the life of me understand why a simple reply to let us know their progress can’t be made, especially this problem is now over a year old. I understand that problems can be complex in nature and that’s fine, all I think we would appreciate is a comment.

Just tested this on 7.10.0.8875…
works well so far…
Quality not great, but at least it works…
Anyone with issues please provide logs from the app and the server. A lot of fixes have been released over the past months and these errors are generic and sometimes not accurate and there could be different underlying issues giving rise to the same error
Where the failures occur with specific files, it may be necessary to also provide a short clip created from the file that can be used to reproduce the issue

Although my Firestick 4K Plex is still working fine, I decided to test something else. Instead of disabling H.264, I simply brought it to 5.1 instead of 5.2 (recommended). It’s still working fine. I’m still on v7.10

I know you reinstalled Plex, but did you ever try resetting the Firestick. Maybe it’s another app that’s installed that is causing the problem.
I will test this soon and post an update along with a sample file and logs if the issue persists.
and sorry for not responding to your post at the time. I bookmarked it but it got buried.
Interesting that it is at similar times past the hour. Could be corresponding to some hourly activity somewhere

Noticed you have disabled debug logging on the server. Could check logs for DEBUG and if it is not ON, then wait until you get the problem when you have enabled it and then get logs
At this point, I think the problem is either on the server side or in the networking layer of the Shield or Android TV. I have the same problem with MrMC and from its logs, it just seems to stop receiving the stream for long enough that it causes playback to halt. I’ve also, in the past two weeks, had this start happening to the Plex client on LG’s WebOS TVs.
This is affecting me on recorded shows that are recent. I am still able to play live TV and older recorded shows. It also only seems to be affecting our Toshiba Fire TV. The other three Fire TV sticks seem to be working.
Thanks for the tip! Setting H.264 Max Profile from 5.2 to the default value of 5.1 fixed the issue for me. Which doesn’t make any sense considering all my files have a H.264 profile of 3.0-4.1. Go figure
Edit: This was on a 2nd Gen Fire TV Box (AFTS). I did not have this problem on my 3rd Gen Fire Stick 4k (AFTMM). Also this problem would present itself no matter what server I connected to (my own or friend’s who’ve shared access)- so I believe this is mostly likely a client issue.
Having issues with multiple titles that have a DTS 7.1 Audio stream using a Fire TV Stick. Manually switching the Audio to AC3 allows it to play, but using DTS 7.1 I get the error in the title of the thread. From the logs in the App, an exception is getting thrown. Here’s the log from the Fire TV stick FireTV Log.txt (603.9 KB)
I have all these same errors on both my Fires and my Sony TV. In addition to the errors the more nagging problem I have is in the middle of watching anything you’ll just find yourself at the dashboard again, usually you can pick up where it left off luckily but it’ll happen 20 times during a movie sometimes. Oddly the only client that works reliably for me is the Windows version. My server is a beefy Windows 10 VM but I stood up a separate beefy Ubuntu VM yesterday searching desperately to find a solution. Plex replaced my old WDTV’s and worked fantastic for a while. Seems I don’t see many people complain about just randomly getting kicked out though and it happens on my Sony TV too.
Anyone know where to get a direct, reliable download for 16.2 for the FIRE stick AND the one that’ll work with the Sony TV?
Hello,
I dug a little deeper (using a FireTV Stick 4k with Plex for Android 7.12.1).
I picked a video file which was not playing (either “connection lost” or just sitting there, doing nothing)…and changed two things:
First “Max Video Quality”:
Finding: if I reduce the max video quality far enough…the video starts playing. Looking at tautulli, this is happening, when the file is not direct played or direct streamed, but transcoded. Because of limitation. → for what ever reason the FireTV Stick 4k does not like “direct”.
Second “Reduce H.264 max profile”:
starting at 5.2 and going down to 4.0 the video was not playing…
hitting 3.2 and below, the video was playing…checking Taululli agian…my server was transcoding again, I guess the video file was 4.0 or up…Update: Checked it. It is 4.0
=> Overall…I guess there is something wrong with direct play/direct stream with the FireTV Stick 4k.
Thanks for reporting this. Could i have a short clip that reproduces the error and logs to confirm the error with the clip

This is still happening. I just ran into it on my parents fire tv. How can you not fix this? Embarrassing.
I’m going to be extremely detailed and hopefully help some others on here as I was pulling my hair out trying stuff to fix the problem I was experiencing…
Here are the devices I used to test/troubleshoot
*** My Plex Server runs on my Western Digital PR2100 and has been in commission for almost 2 years WITHOUT ANY ISSUES****
FireTV Gen2 (DV83YW)
ROKU Plex App
Samsung 4K 56" SmartTV Plex App
Samsung Note 8 Plex App
Gaming PC w/ Liquid-Cooled GTX 1080TI, 32GB RAM, i7 8700K CPU, 1TB SSD
So a few days ago I started noticing I was having issues playing certain movies all of a sudden that had previously worked fine. The pre-roll would load fine but as soon as the movies were supposed to start it would just sit there… on the FireTV it would spin and eventually say something to the effect of “Network Connection Lost to the Plex Server”. But other movies and TV shows would work fine. To troubleshoot, I tried loading the movie(s) from my gaming PC (specs listed above) thru Plex in the Chrome Web Browser and had the same issue with the same movies as my FireTV. It wouldn’t ever pop-up and say “Network Connection Lost to the Plex Server” but it would once again load the pre-roll clip, then upon where the movie should start it would just sit there at a black screen and not do anything. Went Upstairs, tried on my ROKU, same thing… it would never load and just sit there…
At this point I’m like OK WTF is going on. This has to be something on the server-side and not the client side. A lot of people that have commented have noted things they’ve done to fix on the client-side but when you start troubleshooting with multiple platforms (Android/Roku/Windows) and still are seeing issues then it has to be something different. I made sure nothing was wrong with the movies by loading the movie directly from the folder it lives in on my PC, worked fine… ok… now that I know the movies that are having issues work fine directly on the PC I moved on… but as a last step I tried using Plex on my Samsung Note 8 and both of the movies that were having with the other 2 devices WORKED FINE. HUH, That’s weird…ok…whatever.
Last Troubleshooting Step:
Installed Plex Server (1.15.3.876) on my Gaming PC.
Added the movies that were having issues to my new Plex Server.
Tried to play the movies that weren’t working on my PR2100 NAS running Plex (same version)
Movies played w/o a problem. So now I know my issues are definitely pinpointed to either my PR2100 having an issue or the Plex version is the problem… read below for what I did to fix
RESOLUTION:
These issues started happening recently as stated. I FORGOT that I had recently updated Plex server on my PR2100 FROM 1.14.1.5488 to 1.15.3.876. So I said the hell with it, let me downgrade back to the version I was on and see if the issue resolves itself…luckily I still had this stored on my PC because I couldn’t find it on Plex website at all.
As soon as I downgraded back to previous version of Plex EVERYTHING immediately started working again. No issues at all. I didn’t even have to reboot my Plex Server. So there is OBVIOUSLY something with the latest version that isn’t behaving properly with at least my version of the NAS but I suspect its a bigger problem than this.
I am hoping this helps some people that have been going crazy like I was.
I had read about this issue a while back but didn’t have it myself (despite fire stick TVs) so I figured it just passed me over. But now I’m getting it on one firestick and my android phone, but not the other.
As is my usual, I instantly started telling people Plex is a buggy mess and not to get it. This will switch back to a recommendation once restored. Because I like what Plex WANTS to be. But what it is currently is frustrating. I do not want to watch movies at 720p on my giant screen. I also don’t want to have to USB files over when I pay a server to do it.
That said, if you wanted to include role back function on the server, where I can choose which version of plex I want (so I can find a stable release) I’d put the onus of this issue on me to find the right distribution for my stuff. But as it is, it’s on you to make sure the only version i have is stable.
Rolled back the server to a working distribution. Didn’t work. So I just set the quality level of the video to “Peasant”. It works, but I’m still not gonna recommend Plex to anyone until it’s fixed. But it’ll have to be fixed on the player side. And I can’t choose my distro on a Firestick TV.
