"Playback has stopped because the connection to the Plex Media Server has been lost"

Which roku model did you get? I have an old Roku but I don’t think it can run Plex any more.

Roku Express 3900R

For what it’s worth I am not having this issue with the Amazon Fire TV Cube.

I’m running into this issue on the latest Plex Android app from the google play store. Roku app and plex web seem to be working fine. did some testing and was able to play back video that was giving problems using jellyfin (open sourced of Emby, and the beta Jellyfin app on my phone.

I’m in the same boat, Insignia Fire TV and the Plex app gives the same error. I can run an HDMI from the QNAP NAS that is acting as the Plex Media Server and use QNAP’s service to watch without any problems or issues. But through the Fire TV, nothing. It’s sad too because it sees all the media on the NAS and even plays the theme music, but when it comes to actually playing the media, nothing.

Same issue on my Insignia Fire TV. Worked for a few weeks just fine, then suddenly got this error message and it’s been dead ever since. I even switched my media to a new, much faster server, all connected with ethernet. Same problem. This thread is 425 posts and growing with zero solution. The Plex people really dropped the ball here and don’t seem to care.

$29 Roku took care of it. Not really a solution but it got me up and running. I just set my Insignia to default to this input and probably won’t go back to the fire tv

Same issue for me… It didn’t work for me and then I updated my android tv and suddenly it started working again. But after one movie it stopped working again, I can’t even watch the same movie again… Please for god sake give us a solution this is starting to get pathetic

Same problem except I have a synology NAS. FireTV plex client is crap- I also have an AppleTv and a Roku that work better than the Fire

Hello everyone!

I have read loads of topics about this and didn’t find any solution so I mailed the support and they told me to make my own topic with debug logs and stuff.

So here I am! I don’t know what details you need since I am not good with this stuff so I just give you as much info as possible and then you just check out what’s useful for you to help me.

So I started to get this issue for like 3-4 days ago and I don’t know what to do and I have seen that this is a very common problem.

Before the problem occured I watched a movie with no problems and then I tried to watch another movie but it wouldn’t work.

So I tried to watch the movie I watched 5 mins earlier and it didn’t work this time so it seems very wierd…

I keep getting “Playback has stopped because the connection to the Plex Media Server has been lost” whatever I try to watch…

And there is no problem with my connection for sure I have never had a problem with it and I can’t find any now either.

I am using this TV: [55 LED -TV Philips 55PUS8503/12 UHD Smart]

I have the Plex Media Server on this computer:

I have upgraded my CPU to Intel Core i9 9900K 3.6 GHz 16MB and Motherboard to ASUS PRIME Z390-A

I don’t know If you need more info about something else, if you need just comment and I fix it as fast as possible.

I have uploaded my debug logs from the Plex Media Server and from my Android TV and you can find them at the bottom. The support told me to upload it as a ZIP/RAR and text document.

Hopefully someone can help me out with this crap, I appreciate all help I can get and sorry for my bad english. But I hope you guys understand.

Kind regards, Mattias

I’ve been having the same problem on my Samsung Tab A for about 3 weeks now. I figured out that it will stream only if I set the quality at 720p or lower. Once I go above that, I receive the error message. I can sync content to the device and playback works great, it’s only happening when I try to stream at 1080p directly from the server.

Same issue, here for answers but can’t seem to find any. Local storage on a synology NAS. My LG TV with the Plex App works fine, use it daily. Tried streaming on my Android LG G6 and I get this message. I tried reducing the quality of the stream as suggested above but it didn’t work.

Has their been a consistent fix for this?

I’ve been recently having an issue w/ Plex on my Insignia NS-32DF310NA19 32-inch 720p HD Smart LED TV- Fire TV Edition and only this device.

App installed from Amazon App store and recently getting the error “Playback has stopped because the connection to the Plex Media Server has been lost”

I have my Plex server on a PR2100 NAS and playback works absolutely fine on an another Element Fire TV, Apple TV 2nd Gen, and multiple android devices in the house and out.

Suddenly getting it with the latest update and my FireTV with some media (not all), setting local internet to 3mbps and 720p doesn’t help.

Why is this still an issue on Insignia Fire TVs?

Hello Plex Devs, it’s been almost a month since I reported this issue. Help please. Thanks.

Hey guys,

Everything has been working for me up until this week (i havent tried plex for a week so i dont know exactly when it stopped working)

Anyway, i use a WD My Cloud as my server and it just has lost connection. I can access the server fine to see my files etc. It is only plex that is having a problem with it.

There is ALOT of posts above… i cant read them all, but is there a fix or workaround or something?

Cheers

nope.

When I contacted Plex via email their reply told me to post a brand new topic about the issue, which I have now done. I’d highly recommend everyone who is experiencing this problem to post their own topic about it. Preferably include logs from the server and the client app. Also attach one of the files that is experieicng the issue (as long as it’s small enough).

I imagine that the more topics we post about it may push them into hopefully investigating and aiming to fix it for us.

Once again, I wish to subscribe and become a Plex Pass member but absolutely refuse to do so until this issue is resolved.

I’m disappointed that we do not see regular comments from devs on here to show that they are interested and want to fix this.

Thanks,
Neil

I am afraid this error text is displayed when there is a playback error which may or may not be due to the server connection.

Lets get fresh logs and a 10-20 minute clip that i can try and reproduce the problem with.

For an mkv you can use tools such as mkvtoolnix to pick the first 10 or 20 minutes of the file
See https://support.plex.tv/articles/201035968-generating-sample-files-from-media/

Please confirm the problem does arise with the clip and provide logs with the sample

For the server, please ensure debug logging enabled beforehand
See https://support.plex.tv/articles/201643703-reporting-issues-with-plex-media-server/

For the Android app eg on Amazon Fire TV - enable network logging - see
https://support.plex.tv/articles/201573117-android-android-tv-fire-tv-logs/

To get the server logs, see
https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/

To get the Plex for Android log, see the above linked Android TV logs article

Please also include media info xml as obtained from Plex Web through View XML
