Apparently the issue is back on the Insignia Fire TV.
I’m glad some people are brave enough to try the current version. Saves me the trouble, so thank you. Now Plex needs to get off their butts and fix it. I want to recommend Plex to others along with the Fire TV, but this issue is just too much for most of them (I’m very tech savvy, they aren’t) to deal with the disappointment. Please Plex, fix this if you want to keep your customers.
I bought two Insignia fire TV’s for two spare rooms when they were on sale back in May and just got around to getting them installed and both of them have this issue. Plex on FireTV was a dumpster fire for a while with the playback interruption issue that persisted for months and now this issue where you cannot play anything. Good job Plex, keep focusing on BS that no one cares about and changing interfaces while entire platforms cannot even play files. Swell work, going to get Emby running again for these clients but since I am playing more an d more with IPTV I may just finally kick Plex to the curb for good.
Oneplus6t since 7.16 is broken entirely… Another reason to start moving to emby. 0 support for anything other than iOS
I’ve been watching this thread for way too long. This is getting ridiculous. I get stuff breaks, but the silence it what is killing me at this point.
@jesusmc Any update here? Surely this topic has earned more regular updates on how progress is going in regards to resolving this problem? If the dev team could communicate often with the people in here then we could start trialing things back and forth and hopefully get it fixed much faster.
Just adding to the list of users experiencing this.
One of my shared users contacted me regarding this issue on a Amazon Fire TV Stick (non 4K) trying to play Movie’s caused this error. Would playback fine on PMP. (Both were transcoding)
They would have been using the latest Plex app available on the Fire TV (probably an old one)
I could still playback Movies on my Fire Stick, as could other shared users who had Fire Sticks. And the shared user was try to play a Movie that they had watched before without issue, which suggested the file was ok.
In the end we solved this one by deleting and re-installing Plex on the Fire Stick.
So then later I came to Playback something on my Android TV and boom… same issue. The first time I had seen the error myself and this was on the latest beta version of the app.
Switched to my Shield with the same beta version of the app and the Movie played fine.
Checked back on the TV, still no go.
Went to the app settings on the TV, deleted the cache data (and settings data), Re linked my account and then tried to play the Movie again and it played.
Now I am not sure if I needed to delete both of those and wether just deleting the cache would have solved it, will have to see if it happens again.
@blim5001 I’ve had this issue from 7.15.xxx and j have tried deleting, wiping cache and data, and still have the issue. I’m running Android 6 smartphone with the issue.
It’s as if @jesusmc and the rest of the team just don’t care in my eyes, and being beta testers we pay to do all the leg work as well as get some perks.
I’m hoping that they fix the issue before Christmas… 2020… I can’t see them fixing it before then, they have logs to prove that it’s the player, and the “team” are aware of the issue, but it’s not saying it’s going to be fixed any time soon…
Dave
… they’ve been aware of it since Christmas of 2017, but I wasn’t feeling good then about a resolution by Christmas 2018 and the same pretty much goes for Christmas of 2019.
They’ll probably go ahead and release UNO - and we can start all over again with this, that and a whole list of new bugs they can’t fix.
The FireTV app simply eludes Plex.
We’ve never had one (worth a single dam) and very likely never will.
Sometime in the last 18 months an employee announced Video Preview Thumbs were working for the FireTV app. Well, folks… if that kind of work is going to set the bar for excellence - we’re in big trouble.
I dont know if this will help but i had the same issue on my android tv. I had “hdmi passthrough” enabled on my device which hindered from anything playing. Disabled it and everything is working 100%
I used to be able to play everything from my PMS on my Android cell phone. I can’t anymore. I get this above infamous “Playback has stopped…” message before anything starts… Latest Server, Latest Client. I just uninstalled the cell phone client and reinstalled today. Same, Same. WTF ???
So it is this very thing that is the reason why I will never buy a Plexpass.
I have two Shield TVs and both stopped working recently on a particular show. Same show works fine on my Sony TV, same version of Plex, although it often takes me several minutes to get to that due to Plex’s other issues of the disappearing library and On Deck items. I am also scared to upgrade the TV to Oreo (which is now available), the same version that the Shield is using.
The interesting thing was that I have only moved to Plex relatively recently from Kodi due to the black screen issue in Windows that Plex managed to fix more quickly than Kodi, but as I have moved off Windows machines now (due to drifting sync problems with Plex on Windows) it seems the right time to move back.
Actually writing it down, that is a whole heap of problems in a short time, and doesn’t even include the multiple db rebuilds and hours spent getting anime to work at all!
For those that are interested, I can play episodes without subs, but as soon as I turn them on (and the server starts transcoding) the “connection is lost”. So Kodi can’t even play its own stream? Sadly, I am watching in English anyway, only need the subs for signs etc.
Same issue with a insignia tv. Worked fine for a long time out of no where same message. I am tired of this crap.
@jesusmc . Any update? What have the devs found in relation to this?
@rctneil Quite possible a “new feature” instead of fixing the issue that we’re having playing files from our servers!! We’re having issues with the EPG provider to on the live TV side and the amount of noise is deafening from Plex… NOT!!
Dave
It’s seriously ridiculous. We are all trying to use the product they’ve built. We’ve reported an issue we are experiencing and they just won’t fix it. Why is it taking so long?
Come on Plex!!!
This thread has got buried a bit as the original reported issue has been fixed, so sorry about that.
For those still experiencing problems and a similar message “Playback has stopped because the Plex Media Server has been lost”, can you please let me know these things:
- Do you have passthrough enabled, if so, do you still get the issue when its disabled?
- Do you have refresh rate switching enabled, if so do you still get the issue when its disabled?
- Is it only specific content that gets the issue? If so, please make a sample or share the content (can send me a DM).
When you can replicate the issue, could you please replicate the problem and then immediately grab logs from Android and from Plex Media Server. Info about fetching the logs is available here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/201573117-android-android-tv-fire-tv-logs/ and from Plex Media Server; https://support.plex.tv/articles/201573117-android-android-tv-fire-tv-logs/#toc-2
Also if you could let me know your Android version, Plex for Android client version, as well as what operating system your Plex Media Server is running from. Would also be helpful to know if you only experience this issue on a particular device, but never see it on another device (such as a mobile or another Android TV device).
Many thanks for the update. I can post more specific details this evening but one thing i’ve noticed is that in my case it happens pretty much exclusively with videos taken on my Sony RX100 mk1 camera. I did post a sample video direct from that device in my separate issue thread. Maybe you could take a that video and have a look?
Can you confirm this is your sample; https://drive.google.com/file/d/18JZ945qdP9xwEXrGmFSlOnjyCzAx1JC1/view
What device do you see problems with this video on and if you use a different device, does it play okay? If you are able to test 2 devices and have 1 problematic and 1 working, if you could grab the Plex for Android logs from both it would be a big help!
Yes, that is the sample video I uploaded.
My server is a Docker on the latest version of Unraid and using the latest version of the Plex client on an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K. The video plays perfectly in the Plex web client but ALWAYS gives that error on the TV Stick. Sometimes if I uninstall the Plex app and reinstall, the video may play a single time in a choppy and stuttering way but then refuse to play at all after that.
