Plex admin account doesn't connect to server but other users can, also plex install seems corrupted

Server Version#:1.41.4.9463-630c9f557
Synology: DS918+, Linux DSM 7.1.1.42962-7

I have two problems with plex right now.

  1. When I log into my “Home admin” account none of the media server content shows up. However when I log into a “managed account” I see all of the media from my server.
  2. On my Synology when I go to Package Center → Installed → Plex Media Server, I don’t see the Plex icon, I don’t see any details about the install except the Developer, and in the drop down where I would click stop, run, uninstall, etc. I see every option possible, even options that don’t apply, and none of the options do anything when I click them.

Some history on the problems: I previously had the second problem coupled with not having access to my plex media server, exactly the same as this problem here:
https://www.synoforum.com/threads/package-center-wont-let-me-uninstall-plex.14273/

I followed the steps on that forum to uninstall Plex and re-install the latest version. It seemed to work the same as it did for the guy in that forum: I regained access to plex server but I still have the same package center issues. But it’s possible that this is when the first problem started happening where my admin account does not see the server.

When I check “Authorized Devices” I do see the plex media server there, but none of my content shows up. Another odd thing is that when I open the Plex Media Server directly from the Synology I don’t see “Server” in the settings.

Please help, thanks,
Ryan

Synology has released Update 8.

It has been confirmed to solve the Package Center problem.

Install that first & reboot

Let’s start with that

If you don’t see 'server" (left panel) settings, you might have been signed out.

Easy solution there is to:

Ok, looks like I fixed the first problem. I have ProtonVPN on my synology. When I turned that off I was able to see the plex server in the admin account. I also could see Settings → Network, and I added my local ip address to LAN networks, then turned the VPN back on, and I still see the server. It’s very strange though that this only affected the admin account and not the other user accounts.

Ok, let me try to update Synology to Update 8

Didn’t know you had an active VPN.

Those are the first to turn off when diagnosing lost-server issues

After the update I’m able to see Plex correctly in package center. Looks like everything is fixed! Thanks for your help ChuckPa!
