It’s been almost a year since the problem started. And it’s been 2 months since we have heard from an employee.

Same issue here, i stopped using Plex over a year ago because of this issue but thought i would set everything up again to try but alas same problem still.
Plex server running on windows 10, everything works great,
plex player is my Xbox One everything works great.
Plex show, sets everything up fine, server, player, tells me the last movie i didnt finish, asks if i want to continue, i say yes, it tells me its playing but nothing happens.
Rather annoying tbh
Having the same issue, or very similar. I’ve got 4 3rd gen dots, 2 4th gen Echo’s, and 2 first gen echo show 8’s. My plex server is running on a QNAP TS-231-P3 latest firmware Current firmware version: 5.0.0.1858. updated 8 gb memory, Raid 1 configuration. Pretty much just using my Qnap NAS backup and storate. No Qcloud, developer environment, no virtual machines. I’ve got it set at a fixed IP address. My service is 400mb/s from charter. The only thing I’ve not got running is upnp so I’ve got the port for plex forwarded per instruction.
I can tell any of my echos to play or shuffle songs, and I might get through about 3 songs before I get 0 response from the server.
Plex server version is Version 1.24.5.5173.
The echoes and dots are wirelessly connected via Synology meshed network. (consists of 2 RT-2600ac in mesh configuration.) The worst signal is 4 bars. The devices work fine on other streaming services, (Amazon Music, SiriusXM app, etc.). I don’t know if it’s the Plex app for Alexa, or the NAS itself. When Plex is running, the processor is at about 14 percent, and the memory usage tops out around 14-17%.
I have tried everything I could think of to fix this issur, but nothing seems to be working.
1st gen is working again! (Later versions didn’t have a problem.)
Appears to be Amazon’s fix; not only Plex, but WJST Jet Set Radio and Kansas Public Radio (KPR) skills are working again on the original 1st gen Echo.
The Amazon Tap still doesn’t yet play with any of those skills.
Confirming that Plex hasn’t changed anything.
Update on my setup
Plex running on widows 10
Xbox One S in my Lounge, Plex/Alexa wont play on here
LG OLED Tv in my Lounge Plex/Alexa wont play here
4K Fire Stick in Boys bedroom Plex/Alexa wont play here
LG 3D Smart TV in my Bedroom Plex/Alexa WILL play here
I can change Media player via alexa to all the devices except the 4k Fire Stick and it will only play on the LG 3D Tv in my bedroom
Dropping this in the multiple threads where I have complained in the past. I have been posting regularly for a long time about two 2nd generation echos running as a stereo pair with an accompanying echo sub abruptly stopping working, never to return. I finally gave up when no fix ever came after months and months. On Black Friday Amazon had the Gen 4 (sphere-shaped) Echo speakers come down to $59 from $99. They are still priced that way and here were are at almost Christmas. Then I even found other deals like a 30% off credit card offer from Discover on a new Echo, a trade-in deal where you send in an old Echo dot and get $5 bucks, but that entitles you to get 25% off on a new Echo. Anyway, putting all these together I was looking at somewhere around 60% off, so I crossed my fingers, and -yep- I have my PLEX library back. I relegated the Gen 2’s to a second stereo pair. So everything like Spotify, etc., will stream on 4 speakers but at least Plex will now stream again on 2 plus the sub. The sound is much improved I have to say, crisper thanks to two tweeters, and more bass thanks to the sub inside the echos firing upward in a completely new design. I got the white ones that match my HP all-in-one white computer. So, better price and better sound are great benefits - though working AT ALL with Plex was reason enough to upgrade. Very happy now until they break something again. I hate to say I half expect it. Seems like it was planned obsolescence to just stop working and have no fix forthcoming, or even an explanation to offer. If you have Gen 1’s or 2’s and Plex in stereo stopped working, upgrade to the 4’s while Amazon has this deal going and you’ll be good to go again (FINALLY)! - and with better quality sound in the bargain. Hoping to stop posting about this for the rest of my LIFE lol… The frustration is over. Wish Plex would play through the 4 speakers like everything else does, but hey 2 is better than I’ve had in a long, long time.
Adding to the many comments here hoping this gets fixed.
Recently got a Samsung Q60A TV, downloaded the Alexa skill for Plex on my phone, and then tried the voice commands on the Samsung Plex App.
The music commands seem to work fine. If I say “Ask Plex to play Enter Sandman”, it will begin playing the song.
But voice commands for Movies / TV do not work at all; If I say “Ask Plex to play Black Widow”, Alexa will reply telling me to enjoy the movie, but nothing happens.
Considering this functionality has been broken for quite a long time it would be nice if we could get this fixed so that the App works as advertised, thanks.
Running Plex Media Server Version 1.25.2.5319
Now Jan, 2022. SAME PROBLEM. Plex and Alexa worked fine 2+ years. Now first i got a message that I had to dig into Alexa. Did that, now when I ask Alexa to tell Plex to play then Alexa acknowledges [‘playing the playlist xxx on server yyy’] the request, identifies my server correctly but then silence. NOTHING. Nothing on my Echo Dot [2nd gen] . Nothing on Alexa on my Android phone [Android 11]. I have killed the Alexa Plex skill and restarted it. Nothing helps. Server is up to date [on Win 10, my PC]
where is Plex support ?
Please reproduce then provide your server logs and the name of the playlist you tried so I can check if the command is being sent to the Echo.
Edit - If your Alexa app doesn’t show the command you just issued, double check that it and the echo are signed into the same Amazon account. Have you tried issuing the same command form the Alexa app?
Similar problem. Echo dots as Xmas presents with PMS vers 1.25.5.5492 on raspberrypi4. Suddenly yesterday Plex skill on Alexa voice control stopped working (was on earlier vers of PMS, only updated last night). Alexa tells me playing the requested album but no sound. Amazon chat help can’t/won’t do anything suggested support.pex.tv . Any advice?
This started somewhere between 6-15 hours ago (from the timestamp of this post). When I ask Alexa to play a particular song on plex, I get “sorry, i’m having trouble accessing your plex skill right now.” I have tried removing and re-authorizing the Plex skill.
Same here - my Echo dot’s now won’t play my Plex playlists. Worked fine 2 days ago, then yesterday I downloaded the latest Plex/Plex Server updates, now no joy. I ask Alexa to ‘open Plex’ and it connects, I then ask it to ‘play Plex the playlist xxx’ but no music, then I get a ‘uh oh something went wrong’ Alexa message!!! Plex works fine on my LG Tv and via my Hummax box. Probs seem to have started after downloading the latest Plex updates!
forgot to add, problems started with Plex Media Server Version 1.25.5.5492 - previous version was OK
Mine started approx 1700GMT weds feb 9th, fairly similar timeframe. Tried disabling/enabling plexa skill, turn off/on echo dot, factory reset on one of the dots, reinstall PMS. No idea what else to do.
At least it’s not just me that’s having issues with Plex and Alexa recently. It’s been working pretty well for years but the last couple days I’m not getting anything.
I’ve tried just about everything I can think of. Restarting the Echos, reconfiguring them, rebooting my router, server, removed and re-added the skill and re-authed it etc. Remote access is working perfectly as I can access everything from outside the house via my phone or laptop, but I’ve been through and checked that anyway.
I’ve got a mixture of Dots, older and new and an Echo and it does the same on all of them.
I am trying this procedure again to fallback to the previous version. Will let you know how it goes.
Most current version is 1.25.5.5492. Previous version was .5487. Of note: under Control Panel/Programs, both new and previous versions showed as installed. Uninstalled both, now installing previous…
It worked. Do reboot your PC and the Alexa device after reinstall.
Edit: Evidently this was unnecessary, and just a coincidence of timing. Will update again to new Plex version.
Well this is just friggin’ weird !!!
I haven’t done anything with my PC, Plex or my Echo dots since my last post 3 hours ago (I didn’t even do the whole switching it off and on again), tried the ‘Alexa open plex’ command on the off chance - it connected to Plex, so far so good, then did the ‘alexa play plex the playlist xxx’ command, and lo and behold the playlist plays OK. Tried it on all 3 of my Echo’s and all hunky dory.
Likewise! I’ve just tested mine and all but one are working properly now after not working for the last couple days. Good to know it wasn’t an issue my end. Hopefully the last one that isn’t working will sort itself out soon too.
Thanks for the messages that service resumed. Confirm mine has come back. Wonder what caused it and if it will happen again. Coincidentally alexa app on ipad did an update last night!
did that months ago, still not working
