I Have a WD my cloud Home device with plex enabled for years.
Suddenly my plex stopped playing, I logged to My Cloud Do more… and I found the service stopped, I tried to Enable it but it stuck on “Enabling…” repeated re-boot and shut downs are no help.
After each restart plex is not enabled
I moved the files out of plex folder, deleted plex empty folder, rebooted and tried Enabling plex, but the same - no luck !!
HI,
Sorry I cant help here, I am just asking to see if you found any solution because I have the same problem…tried all sorts of stuff only now, instead of showing it cant find my server…it shows nothing and just offers up plex content instead.
Let me know how you get on with this…
Exactly the same thing has happened to me, server has been working fine for almost 18 months then 2 days ago the server is shown as Offline, however I can access all the data on the Western digital device through their app, so what’s changed in Plex?
Hello there!
Same problem here, impossible to watch movies anymore on my MyCloud Home. Plex is no more available in the list of the apps in the control panel
I can see there has been an update on the MyCloud Home. Could it be possible that an update is necessary from Plex to enable it again?
@chrisallen Do you still need the logs you’ve requested on a previous post? (WD MyCloud - #3 by iveson643)
Have you an answer from WD?
I have several partial answers.
- Yes, the WD MyCloud firmware update that was recently done does require you to re-enable Plex.
- Yes, I’ve been working with both WD and with Plex all week.
- On a WD board some users report being able to complete re-enabling but only after waiting a half hour or more. Then waiting for Plex to re-index.
- I heard from WD today. They asked me to try again and let it run at least half an hour.
I’ve tried to do that in the past but get the error message long before the half-hour window. I’m willing to try again, in case something else has changed on the back end. But…I may not be able to give it a fair shot until Saturday or Sunday morning. I live in a rural area and the only high-speed internet we have available is satellite based. My speeds often degrade during the week (congestion) and/or during bad weather and that might disrupt any prolonged updates. Assuming the weather is clear, early on weekend mornings is the best time for me to try to eliminate that as a contributing factor. I’ll keep you posted.
Apologies for the lack of response. It was a long weekend here. I will follow up with WD today to see where things are at, and if there is anything in the logs that is required. Currently, the issue looks to be with downloading the app from their servers which times out due to an unknown reason. I will try and have more information to share soon.
Plex still not available to be installed on the WD MyCloud Home. Did you receive any news @chrisallen ? I don’t know if it’s on Plex or WD side, but the fact is we can’t use Plex for a week now.
Still no answer, have you some news? We can’t even know if it’s because of WD or Plex.
Hi @JuliaanGG, This issue is on WD’s side. They came back and said they are working on a solution to increase timeout and improve UX. I don’t have anything more to share at this moment. I do however suggest posting over on their community forums as their customer service folk tend to monitor it and relay platform issues back to their internal teams.
Thanks for taking the time to check. I’m sorry to hear this, that means we have to wait after WD and I fear we’ll have to wait a long time
I regret 200% having purchased this NAS.
I have the same problem! I believe it happened when there was an update to plex, but I have also registered an incident with WD.
Why does Plex not have an easy to reach support? It seems the only way that you can get help is via this forum.
About to pull trigger on the WD PR4100 NAS. Following
I have exactly same issue. And problem origin is WD side.
Just a little follow-up. I’ve reached out to WD support and they answered me they are aware of the issue and are working on it.
It’s just 2 weeks now we can’t use Plex, it’s absolutely not normal. Let’s hope they’ll fix it quickly.
On Thursday WD did an update which cured the enabling the server problem. It was an automatic over the air update so it should be OK now!
I wish. I think I’ve got the update, I’m running version 8.6.0-117. This weekend I got a new internet service provider. Still satellite (so still some delay) but 3x the speed. (I had other reasons for doing this but thought it might help with this problem.) Nope. Still getting same error message. Have tried different browsers and have tried running from desktop, laptop and mobile app on phone. Same error message. It will not run on any of those for 30 minutes. The error message comes at about 10 minutes. What next?
Check this out!
You MUST reboot the media server, works on my Fire TV, iPhone and iPad and both the Standard Plex Media Player also on HTPC.
My Cloud Home: Firmware Update

I got the email about the update. Today I did the reboot. The “enabling” ran for 13 mintues, then I got the same error message. Next idea?
When the new firmware came out I had the same issue, but I found a sort of ‘work around’, it may work for you… If you run Enable and let it run and fail you may find that the actual services are running and configure the PLex outside of the WD APP. It’s a quirky way to do things but enable the service and wait for enablement to finish or fail, then reboot the WD device. Then if you connect the to the plex port on the device https://:32400 you may find that the configuration process will work from there and you can log into your account and add the new server. Unfortunately the WD upgrade process is a bit of a kludgy process and really doesn’t carry over your settings or set the ID unless it finishes completely. I have never yet seen it finish enable completely, so I do not know if it does retain the ID or not… Anyway, once you reach the configuration pages you probably find a new bare server with no libraries defined… At that point you would have to redefine your libraries manually and the server will scan and index the whole thing again… An ugly messy time consuming work around, but the new version of Plex is much better at looking up metadata so as long as your files are decently named things come up pretty well afterwards. The bad news is that playlists and collections need to be recreated manually.
It’s ugly, but it may get you running. Your alternative is to wait and see when WD fixes things
