Plex Client will not connect

Server Version#:1.43.0.10231

Hi all,

I have a remote PMS and watch Plex on my Sony TV (Google TV) and quite often it will not start Plex. The app will start and you see the menu on the left and a rotating circle. Clearing the cache, forcing the app to stop or restarting the TV does not help. Clearing the app data, and therefore logging back in, is the only fix.

When the connection issue is happening I can connect to PMS via my phone or tablet just fine.

This happen last night 16th Nov 8:03AM UTC.

Logs attached.

Any ideas appreciated.

Thank you for the logs.

Notice the EAE (Dolby audio transcoder) is getting an I/O error

Is your transcoder temp on a network share / folder ?

Can you check the permissions to the transcoder temp directory to confirm the plex user (plex b y default) has write permission ?

I ask because you are not overflowing the Notify table ( notify will work )

@ChuckPa - No not on a network share. Permissions are correct too.

Don’t understand what this means, sorry.

Also the timestamp in the log you have shown is not when the problem occurred.

Thanks,

Greg

EDIT: Permissions were NOT correct, have now changed them. Would this have been the cause of my issue?

Hi all,

No one with any ideas?

Greg

@gregeeh

Sorry for the delay.

I am concerned about the container’s and LAN’s network config.

  1. You have it configured in bridge mode (?) eth0 (172.17.0.12) (02-42-AC-11-00-0C) (loopback: 0)

  2. Is your LAN IP 192.9.181.x ?

  3. If so, that’s not a valid RFC-1918 LAN address and it’s conflicting with Oracle Corporataion

Sorry @ChuckPa I should have mentioned that this is a hosted PMS and I have no control over how it is installed.

Greg

Thank you. That’s important info.

What’s the Distro they gave you to run on?

Linux version 5.10.0-33-amd64 (debian-kernel@lists.debian.org) (gcc-10 (Debian 10.2.1-6) 10.2.1 20210110, GNU ld (GNU Binutils for Debian) 2.35.2) #1 SMP Debian 5.10.226-1 (2024-10-03)

what does cat /etc/os-release show ?

Debian 10 ?

How skilled are you (command line) and would you consider making some changes to make your life easier ?

CLI should be no issue. However I don’t have sudo access which might be an issue. Really interested in solving this issue at the moment.

Fair enough.

Have you considered using HOST networking ?

I suggest this because they control the network stack.
You creating a bridged adapter in the container, when you don’t have sudo, is going to make this very difficult / possibly not possible.

I’m sorry but I have no way of changing anything to do with the installation of Plex. I was hoping the logs and the time I provided would help determine what is causing this issue and why deleting the client data and logging back in made the client connect correctly.

They installed the docker container for you and gave it this configuration?

Correct.

I am VERY sorry but if your hands are completely tied then all you can do is ask them to make the change because, it seems, only they can change the container’s configuration.

What change?

Change the network from bridged to host.

Who is the provider (name please) so I can go research it before you waste any time?
