Can I post a video here of my experience opening up Plex and once again it telling me it can’t read the hard drives or whatever? Oh right, you don’t allow video clips. Well basically I subscribe. I pay, and yet once again whenever I go back to Plex I can’t play any of my films because they’re not associated. Once again with my library. Everything’s on, my NAS is working fine. Everything’s plugged in showing their alive and well, but yet once again Plex can’t play my library. I’m afraid I’m going to have to stop giving you five bucks a month because literally this is like an endless death loop of hell. Frankly. And I have no other recourse but to post on here. And then you actually delete my post because it was somewhat critical? Beautiful interface. I love how it looks. But you guys seriously need to get your act together because often your app isn’t even usable. And I’m no newbie seriously.
Looking through your post history, it does seem you have been having problems for some time. With that said, at no point have you provided any meaningful information about your situation that would enable Plex Staff or commnity members to help in any way.
A good start would be:
- Server platform and version
- NAS connectivirty and network setup
- Logs generated soon after you experience the issue at hand
On the limited information you have provided, my stab in the dark would be that the cause of your inermittent issues is that the NAS is mounting on different drive letters after every boot, resulting in Plex looking in an incorrect location for your media. However, this is a blind guess, providing the above information will be far more beneficial.
DSM doesn’t use “Drive Letters”. That’s a Windows thing. DSM is Linux.
OP may be running a Windows server which is mounting the NAS volumes as drive letters.
Auto-remounting mapped network drives is often flaky in Windows. In my experience it does not pick different letters, it’s just that the letter you picked originally remains in place but doesn’t work. I often find that after a reboot, I have to manually double-click the drive to open it to rejuvenate the link. Trying to access a file on that mapped drive directly before doing that will fail.
If that is what is going on, after a Windows reboot the drive letters may not work without giving them a hug, which could explain the report.
Under the assumption the OP is running windows –
Moving this thread to the Windows forum until otherwise pinged by the OP
No, he’s not. He’s on DSM 7.
- Linux (which is what DSM uses) is very strict on who can see who’s files.
- PlexMediaServer won’t be able to see your files UNTIL you grant permission.
Start here. This is the first step to giving PMS access to your media.
NOTICE: There is one step where a “Apply to this folder, sub-folders and files” checkbox is referenced. MAKE CERTAIN TO CHECK THE BOX
