Plex DVR not recording shows

I have been experiencing the same issue. I have just recently setup the DVR functionality. I am running Plex server Version 1.13.9.5456 on Ubuntu 18.04. Recording settings are set to record “New and Repeat”, resolution is set to “Any”, partial airings are allowed, not recording any time before start or after end, the channel and airing time are set to “Any”.

The fix suggested by ember1205 seems to have resolved the scheduling issue for me, and the shows are now showing that they will be recorded. I removed the channel from the guide, refreshed the guide, then added the channels back in and refreshed again. Hopefully the shows will actually be recorded. It has yet to be determined if the recordings will continue to be correct after the nightly guide update.

It would seem to me that this issue definitely has something to do with the downloaded guide, and is separate from the issue of setting the recording quality.

Plex is not recording shows, for some reason. Disappointingly, Plex also then deletes the show that didn’t record from its Recording Calendar, so you don’t even know that the show should have recorded.

Plex is set to record “The Five” daily (see 12/4, 2-3pm).
Plex did not record the show, and then deleted it from the calendar (see Today, the show isn’t even listed).

Let me know how I can help. (Don’t worry about Jeopardy, I know what’s wrong there, my fault).

More…“Recording Failed. Please check your tuner or antenna.”

…and then 2 minutes later, Plex deletes the entry in the Recordings Calendar so you aren’t even aware that there was an issue.

I’ve been a long time Plex user ( 7+ years ) and LifeTime Member and investigated the DVR functionality a couple of months ago.
Whilst it had its limitations I decided it was suitable for what I wanted and purchased some new hardware and TV tuners to set it up.
Now I find that I’m unable to get series recordings working reliably which was one of the few positives I found whilst testing it.

I’ve tried all of the above suggestions and even rebuilt the server again but haven’t found the answer.
There are still a lot of negatives I don’t like about it as well so it feels like I’ve just blown £250 on nothing !!!

Sorry for not adding any value to this thread, but hoping it adds some pressure on the developers to fix this.

This issue is being handled in this thread:

https://forums.plex.tv/t/recording-failed-please-check-your-tuner-or-antenna/337072/71

How do you figure? From what I can tell, the issue in that other thread is completely different than this one. In THAT thread, the issue is a lack of recording because of signal strength/quality. Over here, the server is basically brain dead.

Aaaarrrgh! New episode of ‘The Orville’ did not record on Thursday, Jan 3, 2019, nor is there an error stating why (that I could find). Also, as listed above, the recording entry has been wiped from the calendar as if it were not scheduled at all.

I should note that I checked the day before and it was scheduled in PLEX to record.

Anyone heard anything new on this? I am so glad that I am still parallel recording OTA shows with Windows Media Center (never fails me). I was hoping to make PLEX primary, but I cannot be missing my Orville, now.

There was an error in the TVDB that labeled the show as a repeat, if your guide didn’t refresh on Thursday it may not have caught the update.

If you have WMC using the same tuners that can also interfere with Plex trying to take control.

Must have been the EPG mislabeling issue.

My Plex NAS is the only Plex server accessing the HDHR Quattro tuners. My WMC (Win7) is using the HDHR Prime and older Duo tuners.

Thanks for the reply back.

Is there any way to simply tell the Plex program to record a specific channel at a specific time each day regardless of what the guide contains?

I am a new Plex user and came to this thread because several of my “set” recordings have not been recording. I don’t see any real solutions offered here and a pointer to how to force a recording on a time and channel basis would solve my problem. Thanks!

It is guide driven, you can vote for that feature here:

I have a problem along the same lines.

Good Morning/Evening Arizona airs 3 times a day on 3.1 (KTVK) 7-8am 8-9am, 9-10am and 4-5pm, 5-6pm, 6-7pm

Only the last recording gets saved. There are no repeats, even though I tell it to record repeats.

If they’re ‘silent’, how do we determine they’re doing ‘nothing’, regretting my PLEX investment, as no series recordings are working for me, on 2 WDC NAS’s and 1 Windows PC. (Ver. 1.14.1.5488)

But we got TIDAL, instead of a UltraViolet or Movies Anywhere account ‘linking’.

Plex ‘logging’ and looking for ‘workarounds’ for failed ‘scheduled recordings’ is getting downright old, considering going back to Spectrum Cable’s DVR, their software is more reliable and works much better than PLEX’s and with cable’s ‘on demand’ Apps, PLEX is becoming outdated fast.

Bump. New Plex Tv user here, same problem…at least it’s not me being stoopit.

Edit: BTW, if I select single episodes from the Guide, they record just fine. It’s only series recordings that are failing.

Bump, recently added a TV tuner to my Plex setup, and having the exact issue described here. Would like to see a solid response instead of some odd workarounds that require my constant attention.

Is this still a problem. I parallel record ota programming on WMC and Plex DVR, and nothing in a series is being recorded. Seems to have started in Mid-March.

Anyone else experiencing this as well?

I have the same problem and no solution.

It seems to be a very old problem see Recording schedule page not working (but EPG and recordings are well scheduled) from March 2017.

Strang that Plex still not manage to fix it and no reaction from Plex.
Now I understand why so many people are moving on to emby.media

It’s more that Plex WON’T fix it.

This issue has been reported many times over a long duration of time. They’ve done NOTHING about it.

Their ‘forums’ are full of the same crap that’s here on Plex’s and another ‘lifetime’ fee is $120.
