Add me to this boat.
Saw that there was an update of the OS of a lot of Bravia TV sets yesterday. (Posted June 24th).
Updated directly however after the update the problem persists so no luck there.
As a work around for the time being I have just resorted to chrome casting from the iOS app. Bit of a pain.
Last time I tried to open the TV app it crashed out to a black screen, this is less than ideal.
Has there been an acknowledgment from Plex that they are fixing the issue beyond that the beta fixes āsome crashesā?
just Updated to the latest Plex server Version 1.16.1.1291 and the issue still occurs. The android player version on the TV is 7.17.2.11085 if thatās of any use to anyone. Also noticed there are two separate threads on this issue⦠fingers crossed a fix comes pronto!
Not sure if anyone has tried beta there are some fixes for crash on start in 7.18. I believe it will go public next week.
I despair with this approach. Iāve got a bunch of family members with Sony TVs who are about to give up on using Plex as they have tired of reinstalling the client daily due to crashes on start up.
My own Shield requires me to switch users and switch back daily as none of the libraries show up -glad I have two family users to switch between, otherwise I would be outta luck.
Surely there is a way to pull a release using google play services? In fact, the situation should be the Beta users experiencing crashes -it is lunacy to make people sign up to the Beta program to stop the crashes. This is all around the wrong way!
Its the player that causes the problem not the server. If only it were possible to go back to previous version
There is a fix rolling out for this soon.
Installed an update today and it seems to have fixed it. Restarted plex multiple times without issues.
With the last update of the player ( 2th July), it seems the error is fixed.
This is BS⦠How many plex pass users are Sony owners? You donāt care!
Iāve had enough⦠Just stop breaking things!
I have deleted my Android TV from the Plex web portal under settings -> authenticated devices.
And then linked my TV again from the Sony Plex app, after that i have no issues opening the Plex App.
Having issues with this again today⦠unsure if there has been another update but The Plex app wonāt find my media server. iOS is fine and loads up the server instantly. The Plex tv app endlessly loads before crashing out to the tv homepage. It has worked flawlessly prior to the recent update to this thread and recently since the āfixā itās been laggy and slow, until today where it refuses to play ball⦠frustrating!
Anyone else still suffering with this? I still canāt open the app without clearing the credentials. Once i do this it instantly connects to the server⦠no idea what is causing it but i am seriously considering dumping the TV app as doing this requires my to re-authenticate each time with a web browser.
Same here - I have 2 Philips Android TVs running the latest version of Oreo.
Updating to the latest Plex release, Iām unable to even open the app⦠Anyone else experiencing this still? Open the app and it just kicks me back to the Android TV menu.
same here ⦠on my philips tv. i have reinstalt the app several times⦠no effect.
We have had reports of these crashes, we need some ADB logs so we can figure out what is going on. Are you using the beta?
The very best advice I would suggest which has worked for me is to update your client and then sign out of the app and re-authorize the app.
You will know that you are re-authorizing when you are asked to go to plex.tv/link and at this point, you would put the new pin required to sign in to the app again. I believe the new UI needs a new re-authorizing so it does not crash.
Thanks for the data point @SanchezHouse.
That shouldnāt be required so we would still like to fix the crash.
If other people have tried this approach an and it work Iād like to hear about it as maybe it will help us to reproduce the problem.
Of course, it is probably a bug or something Plex has to fix on their end because if I understand the blog post from yesterday correctly, UNO is the new overall UI for Plex clients so perhaps with Android TV this has been a problem. Thatās what I needed to do in order to correct the problem for me, but it could be different for others.
