Server Version#: 1.24.3.5033
Player Version#: 1.33.0.2444-a220eae4
Is there any particular reason that the Plex desktop player for Windows is and has always been choppy compared to the web player? The web player seems to have never had any problems rendering animations (scrolling, opening menus…) at a high frame rate (60+).
In fact, I’m not even sure it’s the frame rate per se… The whole thing just feels heavier, like there’s an added processing layer. Plex for Web is ice skating and Plex for Windows is snowshoes in a blizzard.
There was a point a month back when a version of the player was doing all menu-ing in software, not using a persons video card, to render the UI. That resulted in a lot of people reporting this kind of feel to it.
I think you might be on that version. When did you get this version installed?
I was having similar issues on Versions:
Server: 1.24.3.5033-757abe6b4
Client (Plex for Windows): 1.34.1.2590-74ea7099
For me the experience used to be acceptable (still far from fast and snappy) but after the recent “big” UI overhaul Plex for Windows was extremely slow.
As example it took too much time when selecting a library or the home page until the actual UI got updated to show that the new element had been selected.
I’ve just fixed theese issues by manually installing the windows test build that reenables GPU aceleration.
The test build has already been superseded by the official update to v1.35.1
You might have to download and install it manually, if you are on the experimental build.
Well, Plex for Windows now NAGS me constantly that there is an update, so I am using it. And… Ugh. Ok, the UI is at least responsive, but it lost a lot of the coloring it had before.
And maybe I need to reboot my comp, but the UI becomes HORRENDOUSLY unresponsive when you are playing a video. Like, 2-3 seconds behind real-time. As soon as I pause, the thumbnail image of the videos if I mouse over the progress bar update in real time, but when playing are extremely laggy. Trying to pause takes just as many seconds, but as soon as I do everything pops into responsiveness. What’s up with that?
