Plex HDHomerun DVR "HD Only" resolution not working

Left me go back to the logs / I might have pasted wrong url

The request url was based on what was in the log and may be that will be a clue to the actual problem

I would like to see what you get from these 2 requests. Please select all displayed output and paste each into a separate text file

http://10.0.1.250:32400/tv.plex.providers.epg.onconnect:2/all?type=1,4&beginsAt%3E=%2B1s&beginsAt%3C=%2B1h&sort=mediaHeight:desc,mediaAnalysisVersion:desc,beginsAt&X-Plex-Token=xxxxxxxxxxxx

and also try this
http://10.0.1.250:32400/tv.plex.providers.epg.onconnect:2/grid?type=1%2C4&sort=beginsAt&endsAt%3E=1h&beginsAt%3C=now&X-Plex-Token=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Please clearly identify the two text files so i know which request each relates to. You will need to put in the security token in each replacing the xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Could you tell me what plex client app you are / were using for this? The logs we had before showed the requests coming in from ip address 10.0.1.6

There is a problem with the forum in displaying the quoted text - but if you select the text for the url - it will be ok

Same issues and it is not taking commercials out automatically any more either.

And it only records in SD now. It used to record in HD when I had it set to HD only until the recent update it broke all of that.

@sa2000 here are the two text files you asked for. Please let me know if you need anything else.

Plex client app is web browser from another PC on network from 10.0.1.6 to Plex server 10.0.1.250 is correct.

That is good - thank you.

There are two different versions of the Plex Web App. One that is referred to as bundled and is issued as part of Plex Media Server software - and is used through the Plex Media Server IP eg http://10.0.1.250:32400/web or http://127.0.0.1:32400/web

The other, referred to as hosted, is available through https://app.plex.tv/desktop - this would normally be a later version than the bundled app.

As a separate exercise, could you establish if there is a difference in outcome with regards to HD Only option between the 2 versions?

The two sets of xml provided is what I need together with the logs for recordings that end up not picking an HD channel when one is available.

So for next tests, i need these two sets of xml outputs captured using the 2 request url’s to be done at the time of start of the scheduled recording that will be wrong (together with the logs and details of what was being selected with HD Only option)

Thank you very much for your help

Sure, I will work on that today.

Okay here is today setup. From the local app "Storage War"s starting at 9:00am was selected from the guide using the “Shows” drop-down for HD only and was setup saved about 8:25ish. Channels for it were 041 SD, 1402 HD, 675 HD and ended at 9:30 am. It did not record.
For the remote setup using app.plex.tv app the show is Pawn Stars starting at 9:00am was selected from the guide using the “Shows” drop-down for HD only and was setup saved about 8:25ish. Channels for it were 036 SD, 1478 HD, 736 HD and ended at 9:30 am. It did also not record. Included are Server log files, and both local and remote first and second XML captures. Please let me know if you need anything else.

Thank you for all the detail and capturing the xml.

Almost perfect - my fault for not being specific as to when the logs would be needed to be captured. The recordings were scheduled at about 8:25ish. Unfortunately the logs only go back to 08:49 - covering period 08:49 to 09:04. So I needed to ask for two sets of logs - ones after scheduling the recording and a set after time when it should have started recording. Sorry. Will get there !

So please yet one more go - exactly same as before plus extra set of logs just after saving the scheduled recordings

and just to make sure that I know the exact sequence =

Is this the Grid view?
Channels → Today → HD Only ?
or
Discover ?
or
Shows → All → TV Shows ?

I need to replicate the exact sequence

Sure I will get one more capture. The order I start off with me selecting guide which brings up the grid view, I then click channels which bring up the drop-down list. From there I select shows. Then I choose the show I want to record and then during the show selection I choose HD Only.

So Guide (guide view) -> Channels -> Show then select show from thumbnails.

Here is the logs after the show was selected at 5:57am but before the show was set to record at 6am.Plex Media Server Logs_2018-10-18_05-57-26 after guide selection before show starts.zip (3.6 MB)

I only waited for 15 minute but neither show starter to record, here are the logs and the local and remote XML files.Local and Remote files.zip (443.9 KB)

@sa2000
Crap… Sorry, that is was I get trying to do this early in the morning.

The two shows were 9news and 6am channels 009 SD, 1009 HD, and 653 HD. The second show was CBS4 This Morning at 6 on channels 004 Sd, 1004 HD and 654 HD. These were selected the same way from Guide grid, then I clicked on Channels and this time I used News instead of Shows and then from there selected the show to record. Would a video of the selection process help?

Thank you very much for persevering with me and providing the diagnostics. I believe I have enough evidence now to raise it with the development team. The EPG does show availability of 720 video resolution for the shows

No problem, let me know if you need anything else.

It has now been raised with the development - but you know despite all the repeated sets of evidence we still had something wrong. The recording was going to start at 6am - our 2nd set of logs start at 18:05 ! so the 15 minute wait was too long !

For what it is worth, I have an HDHomerun and I too am experiencing this. Others seem to be experiencing probems as well, see: Plex DVR not recording shows

If dev is having trouble reproducing, it seems widespread enough that we could probably help with repro’ing. Please let us know if anything else is needed.

After not having many series record, I switched all recording to SD. It’d be nice to be able to get HD recordings happening again.
