When I schedule a recording to happen on a UK HD channel, for some reason doesn’t record on the HD channel unless you limit it to the HD channel by pressing Modify Recording & Limit to Channel. Just thought if a HD channel is available, it’d record on it. I’m sure it used to which is odd.

I’ve tried just setting the Resolution to HD only but it removes the recording from the schedule.

Also another issue, for example when in Limit to Channel it shows -

002 BBC2 (BBC2HD)
102 BBC2HD (BBC2)

It’s meant to show as

002 BBC2 (BBC2)
102 BBC2HD (BBC2HD)

I thought, I had all my HDHomeRuns setup wrong, but this is their config in Plex

Also not sure why 102 shows at the top - sometimes 101.

Came here with same issues. Looks very much like the DVR has been developed with a very US-centric viewpoint of how channels are laid out. I was looking for advice on the forums but there isn’t much. I think I will simply disable the non-HD versions of the normal viewing channels as I don’t mind the missing regional news on BBC etc. and then maybe the recording and guide will work “better”.

I would note one other annoyance - lots of films listed in “HD” but they are all broadcast on Paramount Films in SD anyway.

There appears to be an issue and I have been investigating on this forum topic Plex HDHomerun DVR “HD Only” resolution not working

I now have the right diagnostics to refer it to the development team

I do not think it has anything to do with US vs. non US as I am located in the USA and am experiencing the same issue.

I think it’s more “build for the US market and US standard and conventions and to hell with the rest of the world” that a number of us are concerned about. It may be even narrower than that mind, like “we use these broadcasts for testing” - in the UK a terrestrial broadcast channel is either SD or HD - they never change.

Any update on this? Very annoying for UK channels.

Continuing the discussion from Plex Media Server:

This issue has now been fixed but when a program is available to record on a HD channel, I select HD only, but is scheduled to record on the SD channel…

Even when you select Any is it meant to prioritise the HD channel over the SD?

Is Plex getting confused?

E.G. BBC One has an SD Channel on Channel 1 on Freeview & BBC One HD at Channel 101. Does it search the guide from Channel 1 on-wards but as it sees a certain show first on Channel 1, it just records there instead of the HD Channel?

If the fix is not working please provide debug logs covering the time from before the scheduled time and covering the time if the recording as well as copy of the tv.plex dB Files including wal and Shm all zipped please

Please be aware that the check is made on the resolution of the specific episode broadcast and not on whether the channel is HD or SD - so it should pick the HD resolution broadcast if there is one available and showing as such in the EPG when HD only is specified

If you have a scheduled recording now with HD Only Set and you know there is an hd airing then capture the dB files now.

First ensure debug logging is enabled - settings / server / general / show advanced

Then to copy out the dB files, Shutdown Plex Media Server and copy out the .db, .shm and .wal for the epg database which would have a long file name starting with plex.tv

Zip and upload to Dropbox or other service and share a link

Relaunch Plex Media Server And take screenshots showing the selected airing on the grid and also the advanced scheduled recording options

I gave up, I just select specific channel only and try to avoid any clever features in Plex. I don’t see how they can make a decision between two broadcasts without tuning into both and then losing the start of the programme - and then also the “HD Channels” dropdown fails utterly and probably uses the same broken logic.

Excellent, glad I got the right files. Yeah that was probably me trying to figure out why it was going to record in SD so tried saving the scheduled recording a few times haha.

It appears that the fix was tied into a new scheduler that has not been enabled - it is planned to be available in the next few days. I have now arranged for your account to have the new scheduler. I do not believe a restart of the server is necessary but may be it is best to do that. Please run with debug logging. Repeat what you did before, scheduling or amending schedule for existing HD Only recording and capture logs and db as before - before after making the change and if the problem is not resolved, logs during the recording
