Plex improperly manage movies with more than 9 parts

Server Version#: any ( 1.26.0.5715 )
Player Version#: any ( 1.43.4.2971-aa2133cc )

Files ranging from 1 to 9 parts are properly managed.
Starting 10 parts, all above the 9th part is considered as a duplicate.

According to the related support article, you can only stack up to 8 files. Have you considered simply appending/merging those files using e.g. MKVToolNix?

Unfortunatly, it’s not an option for me.
My Fairchild storage do no allows big files and also, in some cases, it can be interesting to keep separate files to play them in another player (e.g. songs of a concert)

In that case you’re limited to 8 clips that can be treated as 1 item (apparently 9 if you’re lucky  ).

It’s a deceptive (and quite weird in 2022) limitation that will make me reconsider the choice of Plex to manage my media.
But than you for your answer anyway. Have a nice day

To be fair… your use case isn’t a very common one.

I think it’s an edge case (although not for you, obviously) to have movies split it into that many parts. Most people use index points within one file for access to different chapters or songs. IMHO the file size limitation on your storage system is the oddity here.

Not sure the major point is my storage. I’ve plenty of DVDs I do not want to merge (e.g. Pat Benatar: The Visual Music Collection (Video 1986) - IMDb) to still be able to play parts separately in other players or to copy some on my car.

As long as you use Plex you will always encounter such limitations,

See automatic subtitle or language selection that becomes really strange as soon as you deal with multiple languages and forced subs. It is totally useless.

as well as strange design decisions and poorly documented behavior.

e.g. turning off remote access does not actually turn off remote access. But with remote access turned off, local streams are suddenly recognized and treated as remote streams. They say its not a bug.

There will always be bugs that are not fixed in favor of new features.

Support requests are often ignored or left halfway.

If you have a Plex Lifetime Pass, you’ll have to learn to live with it. If you don’t have one yet, run as far as you can. lol
