I’m guessing the author will be getting a bonus for this too!
I totally agree! I don’t want anything they’re forcing on “my” home page. When I noticed the changes in the app on my phone I actually stopped using it. They’ve almost doubled the number of clicks to get to anything I have set up, and it may look slicker and definitely promotes what they want me to see, but it’s no improvement for users.
I’ve been a subscriber for years, but this is so bad I’m already trying out alternatives. You’re accepting my money, then taking away my ability to customize what I want to see on my home page. I haven’t gotten much into everything, since it took a lot of poking around to even find my playlists, but taking away my customization options is enough for me to walk away.
Just a note to whoever does your UX and development. When you are not sitting close to your TV screen those teeny tiny icons on the left are not at all intuitive.
There’s a lot I loved about Plex, but these changes outweigh almost all of them. Major fail.
Today was the first time I heard of jellyfin. Looks like I’ll be switching over unless they fix plex. Can’t even figure out how to add video files with this new version. At least the old version let me scan.
Adding my voice to how much of a dumpster fire this update is! I noticed that the mobile phone app was updated and sucked, so I stopped using it a few months ago, now Plex you have made the Roku version as bad as the mobile app. Roku is my main way of using Plex, you may lose me completely over this. As others have said, you take our money and then don’t listen to the users. Welcome to BlackBerry level of decisions.
No kidding. This UI is terrible. On the “new” left hand menu, why is it that the only way to get to “Browse” is a required arrow/button move? Wasn’t “Browse” the top selection before? And the Libraries on top—very difficult navigation to get in and out of them. A truly horrible UI.
This….I can’t play a movie from my library. I click on it, it opens, but the only thing that works, then, is the back button. I can’t click the Watch button. I can’t navigate in any direction. This app is completely useless to me on the Roku, now.
Please explain further how to Browse a library. I can’t figure it out.
in addition to the horrible interface now things that I made sure were clean for playback no transcode needed are. horribly delayed when starting the count while waiting for the % Is real bad, then if you decide to forward a little you have to wait again. its a client problem only
Agreed with everything. I’ve never seen a bigger step backwards in my life. More clicks, and counterintuitive.
I use PLEX to host MY stuff, not watch live TV, not to watch on demand. I don
t pay for premium, and I cannot even imagine how pissed I’d be if I did and they pulled this crap.
It is nightmare
Do far, I have not been able to find a menu called that…
I hate that you can be at the bottom of your libraries, after you go through a “favorite” them so they actually show up in the home screen, and if you want to quickly get back to one nearer the top, too bad! Click through every damn library until you reach it. Before it was a simple left click to the menu and easy scroll up a text list. Stupid design all around.
It’s time to look into using Emby or Jellyfin.
Here’s what mine looks like. Mind you, my server is on a headless Linux box nearby. I get into the browser-based application by going to plex.tv, then clicking Sign In, then Open Plex. Then I click on the wrench icon.
“Streamlined:” classic corporate-speak for enshittification. Fewer features, broken features, more ads, and always a higher subscription fee. Oh, and zero response to user feedback. But we’re used to that with Plex, aren’t we?
I agree it’s highly regressive.
To the Plex design team: It’s fun that you can make a clicked thumbnail into a background but I miss seeing a lot of my library. Now I have to click around to a different page to see my library? Didn’t you try this with a test group before forcing it on us?
Good design doesn’t impede content and functionality. Please do better.
where did you find playlists? i still cant
Sadly and stupidly, you must first enter/browse the Library in which you initally created the playlist. Then bump over the list icon on the left-hand nav pane and you should see the playists for that library. Nope, sorry, there is no longer a global presentation of your playlists across all libraries.
Again, Plex Devs: Put.It.Back. Make your new baby an option in the Roku store if you must, but don’t cram it down everyones throat. Not only will you loose established subscribers, but new customers will be repelled by an awkward, mind-numbing UI.
And a couple of hours later I can’t even navigate to the top menu at f’ing all. At least they will become a meme for being for stupid. PLEX synonym Idiot, stupid, suicidal, unyielding, deaf, unresponsive, uncaring, despising, unconscious. Ok I don’t have the energy to waste on these people. I wrote my first code in 1972 and this is what we get now?
OK, who’s idea was it to rearrange my home screen and put it into some semi-alphabetical order? This Roku app SUCKS. It is not user-friendly AT ALL. The developers have taken away our ability to set up the client side in a way that is useful to us (so far the server side has not been ‘updated’) and they are forcing their crap on our home screens, like they think they know what we want to see – it’s more like what they WANT us to see. Taking away our sidebar where we can decide what we want to view was a huge mistake.
I already have jellyfin and emby installed but have been using Plex as my preferred app for some time. Now that has changed and unless and until the app is reverted or ‘fixed’ I’ve decided that jellyfin and emby satisfy my needs more. Besides that, they both work on my LAN and don’t require internet connection to function properly, so major points in their favor.
