Someone on another forum wrote that there was an extensive development period with numerous forum threads. I replied that I didn’t get a single email message about this revision. They didn’t even announce it. Apparently, only regular forum participants were expected to participate. So, this isn’t only about poorly-composed software. It’s also about poor project management.
For those who need the info, I did discover a way to reorder the home screen and the top menu kinda sorta like the old sidebar version. You have to go into Library and go to the far right side of the list and select the three dots, which takes you to the ‘All Libraries’ list. You then have to deselect all of your favorited libraries, and then reselect them one by one in the order you want them to appear on the home screen and in the Library menu. When you restart the app, they should then be showing in the order you selected. If you want to change the order, unfortunately you have to go through the entire process again. Just one tweak to try to help circumvent this disaster of an ‘update’.
I got it to work, however it did take a little while before it actually took effect. I had to restart the app a couple of times before the change showed up.
What a smoldering pile of dog st! Nothing works anymore, can’t access my own fking movies and shows. This UI is for a smartphone, not for a television! Who the f**k signed off on this design change? How can I receive a refund for my Lifetime Plex Pass? Downloading Jellyfin now.
thats fine for those whom have a little amount of content. i have tons of dvd’s and blurays i have converted over the years. its way easier to go to 2d animated folder than search thru everything labeled animated for the kids. or sci fi tv rather than drama. etc
Please give me the old one back.
I put a new file on the server and was on the roku and could not find the scan files option from the ROKU like I used to.
Had to log into my computer to tell it to do a scan again.
I deleted the morning show because it would not play. though it was a bad recording until I tried to play another file back from the laptop.
Give me back plex from 2 years ago.
Before plex tried to make money by making me rent movies that I already own.
on top of that all my managed users now no longer have access to any librarys or media. even tho they are logged in with the same main account. no settings changed. im going to addume its this new area i cant figure out how to change that says Media: user has access to:
You haven’t granted access to anything yet. even tho they have full library permissions?
Anyone know if keith@plex.tv still is active for the ceo? We need to let them know what we think of this update.
someone at plex seriously needs to wake the hell up and slam some tables. cause its really falling on deaf ears. no response from any staff ive seen yet.
I agree. This new UI is absolutely dreadful. They even took away the option to remember whether your library was in recommended or in browse view. I had all my libraries set up specifically the way I wanted them. Not to mention, the UI is just awful, looking, let alone, not nearly as functional as it was. Not so happy about my lifetime pass purchase anymore. I’ve been a fan of Plex for a long time, but this was a massive, massive miss.
Looking through all the messages, I think Plex really needs to rethink this. Sorry guys, but you seriously dropped the ball this time.
I’m glad I am not the only one having this stupid issue.
it’s so much worse now. go BACK to the interface it was before, it was working great.
so much difficult to navigate menu. I can’t order my list anymore.
Whom ever changed this interface is senseless idiot.
I’m writing this as a deeply disappointed Plex user. The latest update to the TV app isn’t just a step backward. It’s a complete derailment of what made Plex valuable in the first place.
I have many libraries, and the new interface makes casually browsing them on my TV virtually unusable. The layout is cramped, unintuitive, and forces me to dig through layers of menus just to reach content I used to access instantly. It’s baffling that a media server built around personal libraries now seems to prioritize streaming features and social extras over core functionality.
This redesign isn’t just inconvenient. It’s unacceptable. Plex was my go-to solution for watching my own media on my own terms. Now it feels like I’m being forced into someone else’s idea of what media consumption should look like. If this direction continues, I—and many others—will be forced to look elsewhere.
Please give us the option to restore the classic, library-first experience. Plex was built by and for media enthusiasts. Don’t abandon the community that made it thrive.
Just here to pile on. New UI is trash. Jellyfin is getting a bunch of new users right now.
Ive been using Plex for over a decade, this update made me uninstall it from every TV byt the one in my bedroom and download alternative apps and experiment with setting them up. Plex was recommended to me by a friend as an alternative to buying a 50ft hdmi cable to connect my PC to my TV. It worked great so I had no reason to try alternatives until now when they decide to go and destroy what has been great for such a long time.
I can no longer access my playlists that I made for my kids and mother to more easily access the content that they wanted. They had a hard time on the old, easy to use app. They would be totally lost on this new bs.
The libraries that I made for myself and had hidden are now on the main screen. This alone makes it unusable for my family. If it isn’t changed I will never use this app again. It makes me disappointed that I paid for a lifetime subscription.
Whoever made this horrible decision should be fired.
This new update is horrible. The navigation was much better on the side for all of my media libraries, at the top it is very awkward and annoying.
Bad change.
After watching a movie it no longer says ‘Watched’ at the top near the title, all it does is fill in the icon to a white circle and changes the checkmark from white to clear. Very stupid and way too subtle. It was much easier to see the way it was marked before.
Bad change.
Plex has added a stupid icon for the show before the first episode in every season. Not only is it completely unnecessary to be there but if you select it the entire app locks up afterwards. Now you can’t play anything or access any seasons for any TV shows. Returning to the Roku home screen and opening Plex again does not fix the problem! You have to reboot your Roku and enter Plex again for it to be unlocked. And if you accidentally click that new stupid season icon it will lockup again and you will have to reboot the Roku again to fix it!
Whatever idiot at Plex designed this update should be fired, everyone working on the team with that person should be fired. The higher ups that looked at this design, approved it and forced it on us without us asking for it, well they should all be fired twice!
I want the old version of the app back now! I didn’t ask for this update and I don’t want it! Now lets see how long Plex ignores us before fixing anything. My guess is we’ll be living with this mess for weeks or months before anything happens.
Plex why don’t you remember that old saying: “If it’s not broken DON’T ‘fix’ it!”
I’m just going to say it bluntly: THIS IS NOT WHAT I PAID FOR. I have been using Plex for quite a while and it has become my go to for my video and music library. Plex has done updates in the past that I was not crazy about, but this goes much farther. It is absolutely AWFUL. If you’re going to do something, this drastic, at least create a new, separate version of the app so that we can choose which one we want. I don’t even care if you don’t update the old version anymore, so long as it continues to work. Quite frankly, I wasn’t looking for an updated look to the app anyway. I am not alone, clearly. Come on Plex..,
I had this same issue! I finally restarted the Roku and everything is working again.
Just put Plex Preview on Roku and still cannot access my music. My main audio setup is through the Roku. Casting is not an option. Not happy
My first compliant is that I use playlists for everything. To get to them on the Roku TV I have to go to libraries, go to the media type, enter then move all the way over to the left and then down and then find my playlist. Most Recent Playlist is no longer on the Home screen and is no longer an option to add to the Home screen. This new UI is terrible. They need to allow us to go back to the Classic UI.
