Using web UI — why are there library settings on what user will see on home page if you took them away from home page?? Recently added is gone….im sure holiday tags are gone too. WTaF!!
More i think about all this, the more pissed off i get. I can see this whole crackhead design if one just downloaded the app and was going to use it for what plex has and is offering. But to totally highjack 100% of plexpass customizations is a total slap in the face…bully mentality by forcing sht and i cant stand bullies.
Gonna install jellyfin and see what its all about. If i like, then tell them they may have a ton of customers coming their way and pay attention of why they get influx of customers and $$.
Well been reading more….going to install Emby. The homepage looks like, well, home. Again, this crap with roku is very much uncalled for and is the last straw. Should have left plex pass users alone.
Dear Plex: no, no, no, no, no, no. Roll it back so that the libraries are on the left, and do it RIGHT NOW. this is fundamentally ridiculous, it is completely unusable now. Everyone here will end their Plex Pass subscriptions and go find something else with this forced update. Roll it back!!
So, I agree with the general consensus here, this update is complete garbage. The “Home” screen with all of Plex’s stuff instead of my actual media is just stupid. Not sure what the fine folks at Plex were thinking, but I am really hoping they fix this fast or at least give us the ability to roll back.
This almost feels like Plex has decided to self-destruct because they want out. This incredibly awful UI update could not be created by a proper company trying to improve anything. This was done to destroy the company so they could take their money and run. Unbelievable, I’ve never seen anything like this in the decades as a software developer.
@jason.benze, thanks for sharing—frustrating that Roku sent you back to Plex, but that’s exactly why we need to keep the pressure on them! The issue is clearly with Plex’s v8.6.4 app (connection errors and UI mess on my Ultras and others), not Roku’s hardware. But if users get fed up and start switching to other devices like Fire TV or Apple TV, Roku’s market could take a hit, they can’t afford that with streaming competition so fierce. Keep notifying Roku via their contact form or on X. The more they hear about users considering ditching their devices over Plex’s app, the more likely they’ll push Plex for a fix.
Also, disabling all the online services etc and still no change. Zero ability to customize the home page. Personal libraries buried. I really don’t like the top menu.
Apparently they can make money off the module that made them popular and have to push being just another generic live streaming service. Total crap.
I have the same complaint about some of the streaming services - they bury the list of shows that I favorite/watchlist, forcing me to start on a screen full of garbage they think I want to watch - peppered with stuff they want me to watch - basically an excuse to advertise their own content, to steer me away from things they have to pay royalties on.
Plex’s old Roku app had issues - it started you off at a screen of recently watched, recently added, etc - which confuses the heck out of my elderly father and my kids, who search that screen for what they are looking for (which may or may not be there) rather than starting them on the well-organized, CONSISTENT, and attractive library view.
Now a new interface - WTF is this? I can’t even click on a library and have it show all the content, I’m stuck in a view similar to the “home” screen on streaming services. First Roku did this to us, now Plex - trying to ram their crappy streaming services/partner services onto people who don’t want it, so they can create more revenue streams. If I wanted to view another streaming service, I would download another Roku app for it. I don’t want it inside my Plex app - I want my own content there, nothing else. That’s literally what Plex is for.
The new user interface is the worst! It looks like the Plex UX team is a bunch of ferrets on crystal meth. No logic, no intuitive navigation, less ability for server admins to customize the UI to address the way we use the system.
It’s clear that the Plex team has all but abandoned their original user base – the people who brought Plex to prominence – in favor of optimizing their own profits by branching off into a whole bunch of areas that nobody really wanted and that are readily available elsewhere. The end result is the complete enshittification of their app.
Just to pile on what appears to be really common sentiment – YES - the latest update SUCKS. Used to be able to pin/access playlists from Home, but no longer. Everything is now a few to MANY more clicks just to get to the same content as the previous interface, and I can’t identify ANY reason the changes that were made would make sense.
Often software vendors will make UI changes in the interest of making usability better/faster/easier to understand/promote new features, but the latest update to Plex appears to be change just for the sake of CHANGE - ZERO IMPROVEMENT.
Plex folks: I know it would be atypical, but please this time LISTEN TO USER FEEDBACK and undo this mess: the latest UI is HORRIBLE for no good reason.
damn! So after 14 or 15 years they just doubled the subscription price, on something I host myself, and completely borked the interface so that it’s become useless. I guess it’s time to start looking at Emby and Jellyfin.
You know what they say about assumptions… 13 libraries here. I dislike the new UI and would love the ability to choose my app version, just like I get to choose if I update my plex server.
This is absolutely the worst ui I’ve ever seen. Everyone over whelmingly dislikes it. Please roll it back. And hey I get it. It sucks to develop something and it not be received well. Roll it back and everyone will praise plex as listening to their feedback. Don’t and you’ll lose half of the people who just want a simple media server. Even though we have lifelong Plex passes we still spread the word about Plex and recommend it to our like-minded friend’s. Now it will be the opposite and we will warm them not to bother with plex
I second this, the old UI need to be brought back. This new UI is junk and takes forever to access my media. I will swap server software, even after all my family bought the lifetime pass to access my server. I will revert all of them and have them demand refunds also. Who approved such a bad design? looks like plex needs to clean house on the project teams!
Just started to deal with the Library issue with my wife (who is the primary user of the Roku app). We have over two dozen libraries, and the new UI is beyond merely a problem trying to navigate. And moving the Browse option once you’re in a Library to the left-hand? So basically the UI did an axis swap and is blowing up all of us with multiple Libraries.
I have multiple Lifetime Plex Pass purchases (basically for every member of the household) that are beginning to feel worthless. Because I’m even more concerned that this UI change is intended to work its way through the rest of the platform.
Need to roll back the Roku app and cease and desist with any further UI changes in this vein for other platforms, including web browser.
Looking like Plex’s “Cracker Barrel” moment. And it needs to end and roll back just the same…
