Plex keeps crashing/closing

Same with me
Since I have updated the libraries to the new plex agent I get random crashes.
I also noticed that the update service hangs “checking for updates”
update
I always have to update manually.
There has been no changes to my setup except changing to the new library agent for metadata that plex kept nagging to change to.

I cannot pinpoint why the server hangs/halts, and crashes.
Please will be running in system tray, and will need to be ‘exited’ and restarted to last another few days before another crash.

I have been having a hard time trying to get any response to this concern.

My server has been crashing at various intervals since Sept 2021. Currently running Version 1.25.3.5409 on dedicated Win10 PC. I have verified that my system does not contain any of the DLL mentioned here: Windows: Repeated crashes of Plex Media Server | Plex Support

Any assistance would be appreciated. Logs attached.

so frustrating. the newer versions crashed every single night for me.

so i reverted back to a version from like 2 years ago and while i now have ZERO crashing it won’t find any new TV shows I add. it finds all my newly added movies fine. it even adds dvr tv shows to my tv folder. it just will not add any new tv shows that i have added to my tv folders.

this is so freaking ridiculous.

This version is giving me trouble with Remote Access right off the bat. I have to disable then enable and even refresh. So I already don’t trust it.

This is happening for me even after downgrading to version 1.24.5.5173

Server running in linux.
Client running on Roku and Brave on OSX.

The crashing seems to be directly related to audio transcoding: if I try to play a file with AAC or DTS audio, the transcode fails. If I convert the audio to AC3 with ffmpeg first, it plays fine. Steps to reproduce are: play one version of the file and see it work; then play the other version and watch it crash.

Files which were previously playable in Plex now cause it to crash.

Definitely on the “freaking ridiculous” bandwagon.

So, does Plex engineering actually read these posts? Or is there somewhere different that we’re supposed to report bugs with the software?

I have posted in probably 5 other threads over the past month or two and never get any response whatsoever. I know they can be slow to help, but it feels like this is the worst their support has been. I wish I knew what to do. I had another older version of plex running fine for a few days, but the crashing has returned.

1.25.7.5604 was crashing often for me as well. Fell back to 1.25.6.5577 and it’s stable again

Similar issues for me, PMS crashing multiple times per day. I have to remote in and restart the server, cue a roll of the eyes from family. PMS running on a clean WIn10 install with full library rebuild. Changed to Win11, same issues. Version 1.25.7.5604.

I don’t believe these crashes are new to recent versions of Plex Media Server.

The server is crashing in FreeImage - software that is used within Plex Media Server for photos and the crash is specific to handling of TIFF files

Please could you zip this file and send me the zip by Private Message
M:\Photo Library\Commisions\Richard's Portfolio\Petronas Towers HDR.tif
and remove it from the library as it is causing the crash

We may find that there are other TIF files that cause crashes as well - the logs will show which files

Further to my earlier response, I have looked at the previous log files - prior to the TIF related crash on Mar 22, 2022 02:03 am and it looks like the server had other crashes as well - unrelated to the TIF

I have a development build available for one of the recent crashes and I need to see if your server is getting these crashes as well. Could you please filter the Windows Application Event Log in Event Viewer on Source = “Application Error” and export all filtered events and send to me - Thanks

I decided to take a chance and installed 1.25.8.5663 on my Windows 10 server yesterday. I woke up early this morning to find it not running again so restarted it. Then later in the morning it was down again. So I’m back to 1.25.6.5577 again for now. It doesn’t crash on me like that.

Hello
Same issue since I update to v1.25.8.5663 (updated directly from v1.25.6, I think)

I reverted back to 1.25.7.5604 and all is well.

This also happened to me when I was installing Beta versions and I installed Beta version 1.25.8.5621 on 30/19/2022…

I also reverted back to 1.25.7.5604 on 3/20/2022.

I am having this exact problem as well.

All 4 of my Plex servers are crashing like this daily.

They all run on Microsoft Windows Server 2019 Standard

Thanks @bigrodg66 @chetbanach @pitpat6 @mspacek for the feedback

I have one dump from forum user @Olli for the STACK_BUFFER_OVERRUN crashes (Exception Code 0xc0000409) - This has been referred to the development team with the associated logs

May help to get more examples of these crashes - it would need a registry change to make windows capture the application crash dumps

See registry edit on this support article:
Crash Logs: Plex Media Server | Plex Support

After making the registry edit, please create this folder if it does not exist
%LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps

and ensure debug logging is enabled in Plex Media Server - see Reporting issues with Plex Media Server | Plex Support

Restart Windows and on next crash capture the server logs and look for a dump file under %LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps - zip and upload on google drive or dropbox etc and send me link privately and make the related debug server logs available

Thanks

I have been experiencing the same issue since updating to the latest Nvidia drivers and to the latest Plex server on Windows 4 days ago.

The newest plex update as of like a week ago is now causing my server to completely disappear. The previous updates never did this.
