Unable to resolve this issue, i have two movies, which plex keeps bundling into one movie, even though they are the 2nd and 3rd movie in a trilogy. The first one matches fine, the 2nd one gets stuffed in as a copy of the 3rd one. Running on latest plex server on an up to date windows 10 intel nuc. Scanner and Agent are both Plex Movie.
Directory/Filenames as follows. (2nd movie then 3rd movie)
Be My Master (2018) {tmdb-592742}\Be My Master (2018) [1080p x265 AAC].mkv
Up to You (2018) {tmdb-592741}\Up to You (2018) [1080p x264 AAC].mp4
Info from xml for Up To You shows…
Seems to be an error with the data the new movie scanner is using, or that it is favoring the incorrect info on imdb.
tmdb has them entered right as separate movies, imdb seems to think they are the same movie when they are not.
Splitting Up To You back to single movies and trying to fix match for Be My Master by searching for “Be My Master” or “tmdb-592742” always returns Up To You.
How do i get this to match right??? It’s driving me crazy
Unmatching and manually editing the movie is not really ideal, specially after i have just renamed over 21k movies using the tmdb-id in the directories to try to fix collection issues.
Have you tried adding the source id to the filename rather than just the enclosing directory/folder? Like this:
Be My Master (2018) {tmdb-592742}\Be My Master (2018) {tmdb-592742} [1080p x265 AAC].mkv
I’m not sure but I think I remember during the development of the new movie scanner that it pays heavy attention to the actual filename rather than the enclosing directory.
You might want to move the directories/files out of directories that Plex is monitoring, do the Plex Dance and then try adding them back one by one.
Thanks for the suggestion, but still no luck. Wasn’t holding out much luck when searching for {tmdb-592742} kept linking to Up to You which should only be {tmdb-592741}. Moved all three from the trilogy out, scanned and flushed it all, renamed them as follows.
Be My Slave (2012) {tmdb-179058}\Be My Slave (2012) {tmdb-179058} [720p x264 AC3].mkv Be My Master (2018) {tmdb-592742}\Be My Master (2018) {tmdb-592742} [1080p x265 AAC].mkv Up to You (2018) {tmdb-592741}\Up to You (2018) {tmdb-592741} [1080p x264 AAC].mp4
Put them back in and rescanned, and Be My Master and Up to You all got bundled together as Up to You.
Checking xml for Be my Slave shows the matched tmdb number along with an imdb and tvdb one.
Seems an issue with the database the new movie scanner is referencing. The 592742 tmdb reference should not be associated with up to you. Unfortunately i couldn’t find somewhere to post or report such issues.
I must say it’s annoying when you give it a concrete reference to the right movie and it goes and changes it to a wrong one. It also did the same thing with Saturday and Sunday or WWE Wrestlemania 38, but at least that one could be split and rematched to get the right results. Again though the plex reference database seems to force groupings that don’t exist.
Ok just noticed it was eating the posted xml references. So removing greater and less than signs…The xml data is from plex and is what it has populated my database with when scanning them in.
Be My Slave (2012) {tmdb-179058}\Be My Slave (2012) {tmdb-179058} [720p x264 AC3].mkv
Guid id=“imdb://tt2304662”
Guid id=“tmdb://179058”
Guid id=“tvdb://18034”
which seems correct (didn’t cross check tvdb and imdb references, but tmdb matches mine)
Up to You (2018) {tmdb-592741}\Up to You (2018) {tmdb-592741} [1080p x264 AAC].mp4
Guid id=“imdb://tt10125986”
Guid id=“tmdb://592741”
Guid id=“tmdb://592742”
This is whats calling the problem, tmdb://592742 has nothing to do with “up to you” but is a reference to “be my master” a totally different movie.
Easy to verify, pick any movie, fix match, enter {tmdb-592742} and it SHOULD return Be My Master but it will return Up to You instead.

Looks like Up To You (2018) is in Plex’s DB, but not Be My Master (2018). Up To You seems to include a tmdb link to the ID of Be My Master, preventing the OP from matching their movie. Who is best to contact about this?
Hmm. it looks like on TMDB Be My Master, is linked to a bad IMDB entry Up to You (2018) - IMDb which is causing these issues. Normally I would delete the IMDB entry on TMDB but it is locked.
I will ask out metadata folks if they know how to get it unlocked on TMDB or what else can be done.
IMDB has things wrong. Searching there for Be My Master brings up Up to You as the first result. But they are different movies.
I am also doing a rescan of my testing library that i don’t touch to see if there are other glaring issues while something seems to be getting done.
I do know that Homejack Triangle and Homejack Quartet Get merged together, even though i have both referenced with correct and seperate tmdb id’s. (Similar to be my master, searching homejack triangle on imdb returns homejack quartet). Both are distinct movies.
EDIT: After rescan, i had the above homejack movies merged as duplicates, along with Wrestlemania 38 Saturday, and Wrestlemania 38 Sunday. Have edited the tmdb external links to point to imdb’s Saturday and Sunday so hopefully that will fix things if i do a plex dance in a week or so
Still need to write a script to go through my movie collection to verify they are all named right and linked to right tmdb reference, will also add a check to make sure plex is storing the tmdb guid right compared to tmdb id in directory and report if any more odd things.
