Plex losing subtitle while playing

I will try again to replicate also. I have previously given this a decent test and didn’t find issues. I let the playback run for around 30 mins at a time and all good. Even tried with various types of playback (auto adjust quality, direct and trans-code). This time will let it play for longer.

@dfx

I was just made aware of the inability to turn off Plex News

In a future release you will be able to configure access to all online media sources. With ability to turn off all together, or off for just for managed users. This is currently in QA.

Streamed from Windows 10 64bit server to Google Chromecast, controlled by an Android phone.

If there is a need for any additional info, please let me know.

Thanks!

Thanks for the logs. I am looking at the playback at 14:29 of Star Trek DS9 - s03e04 - Equilibrium.avi on chromecast
Did the subtitles appear and then disappear later?
Is the issue on more than one plex client app ? or just chromecast?

Hello,

Thank you for the reply.

Yes, that is one of the affected files What happens is that the subtitles load up and then disappear. If i set them again manually during the playback, playback freezes in next couple of minutes. Then, upon removing the subtitles (setting them to “none”) playback resumes.

I will try to replace the issue using just the Windows 10 store app and/or Web player and get back at you.

After installing the latest server release, I’ve tested two movies and the subtitles work properly from beginning to end, stopping and pausing the movie occasionally to see if the subtitle works, and it did. Thank you for fixing it.

Could you stick to using Plex Web app to cast to chromecast and also see if the subtitles drops from the playback settings

I got a chromecast and tried multiple movies with srt subtitles and i have not managed to get it to fail. Only issue i found was with multi-part movies where the subtitles got dropped on the 2nd part - but that is a specific separate issue which will get looked into

Could we get a set of sample files that give rise to the problem and how many minutes after start?

What version of Plex fixes this? I have been having this issue for the last 2 weeks now and it is really annoying.

Sorry for the multiple replies - please do not stream with subtitles deselected - otherwise I cannot tell the difference between Plex losing the subs or you deselecting them

Hi,
I continue with the same issue on the Samsung TV player, the subtitles disappears on the last minutes of the movie. I have the latest server version.

Please could you provide logs and enable logging on the Samsung plex app as well as the server
Is this Plex for Smart TVs app for 2016+ models or the Plex for Samsung app for 2015 and before ?

And please indicate what time the subtitles disappeared

See these support articles for Plex Media Server logs

And this if the Samsung is 2016 or later model and using the Plex for Smart TVs app

and this if the Samsung is 2015 or earlier model - see section on sending logging to PMS

Hello,

I was unable to test everything listed, didn’t have the time honestly. I noticed that I have an issue with only one series on chromecast and that other video files (so far) work OK with subtitles. Also, mentioned set of video files / subs that cause the issue on chromecast work OK when I watch it via web browser or via windows app.

As I can’t test everything properly and establish some pattern, please ignore my request / complaint. When I get the chance to do so, presumably that the issue still persist then, I’ll be back with more info.

Thanks for the support anyway!.

Is this fixed in 1.10.0.4523?

There was a fix in 1.10.0.4516 - however, some users continued to have problems.
These need to be investigated with logs from the server and the client app and may need sample set of files to reproduce the problem with

I still have the problem on 1.10.0.4523. The problem occurs if I play the movie on the chromecast. Doesnt occur on an Android Phone player.

Thank you for providing the media files and logs. I have reproduced the issue you have which is that the subtitles are dropping out for the last minute of the TV Episode. I have reproduced the issue with Plex Web and Automatic Adjust Quality enabled in Quality setting.

I have referred the evidence to the development team and will try to get it reproduced on Samsung Tizen as well to understand why it is happening on the samsung app

Can I invite you as a friend on my account? You could just play the movie from my server.

That won’t help getting the problem fixed. We are not after proof that it is happening. What is needed to resolve such issues is to be able to reproduce the problem and after that to have it reproduced by the development team in a development environment to get the cause / bug isolated.

What would be needed are logs and set of media files (eg a 30 minute TV episode) that shows the problem and indication as to when the subs disappear. If it is near the end of the file, then a fix is already being produced for that. If it is not, then it needs to be investigated with evidence from the current version of Plex Media Server and logging enabled - if the client app has its own logging then that would be needed as well. For chromecast logging is passed on to the server

I was suggesting this because you could download the movie from my Plex and also I could send you the logs. How do I send you the logs?
