So after running the Plex Media Server – the logs in C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Plex Media Server\Logs\ are not being updated (last modified for Plex Media Server.log in this folder is still Feb 14, 2020?
yes .
Probably changed the location of the Plex data folder.
Check the registry for the key LocalAppDataPath
i tried , nothing changed
You tried what?
Does the key exist in your registry?
i tried changing the logation
how can i ceck the key?
There’s a description in the support article posted by Otto some way above.
Locating the Advanced, Hidden Settings
Windows
On Windows, the preferences are available in the registry. To access settings related to Plex Media Server:
- Open the “regedit” application
- Navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server\Related Page : How to use Registry Editor
Available Preferences
LocalAppDataPath
Values: path
Description: Set the location of of the Plex Media Server data directory (Windows only).
Example:D:\Data\PlexData
In this case… don’t edit it, just check if that path is set and then check that path for the logs again (if it’s different from the one we checked earlier)
hi , sorry for late
i enter into regedit, i found every thing , but i don t understand what i have to do now …
Go to the branch
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server
and see if the key LocalAppDataPath does exist and what its content is.
If it doesn’t exist, plex is using the default location, which is C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server
If it does exist, verify that the drive letter and the folder name stored in it, are in existence and are writable.

is in I: but i m not use that hard disk anymore
And that is the issue. Did you copy the folder Plex Media Server from drive I: to someplace else?
If you did, edit the key and place the path to it in there.
If you did not copy it, simply delete the key LocalAppDataPath.
Then reboot Windows and try starting plex again.
ok i ll try
right-click on it
oooooh finally it goes
thank you very very very very much
there is only one problem…i can t install the update
Update manually:
- Stop/quit/end Plex Server with the tray icon
- deinstall Plex Server with the regular ‘Apps’ control panel of Windows (do not use 3rd party ‘Uninstaller’ software like Revo etc.)
- for safety, reboot Windows
- download the installation exe of the newer version and install it
(If you want to install an older version of PMS, take a look into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Updates)
