I am creating new TV Series and adding to the TV Server folder with the same permissions and in the same way that I have done before and the Plex server don’t recognize it. Does anyone had similar problems ?
Worked fine when I added a new show yesterday. The realist in my is tempted to as about how you’ve named / organized those files… as that seems to be the cause for 80%+ of the reported issues.
As an alternative: did you already check if the new files might have been merged with one of your existing shows?
If I try to copy my database to a new folder and try to change the plex server to the new folder. Do I lose the individual editing that I did ?
If you do it properly, your server should still access its database with all your edits/changes.
Try to avoid placing the server data directory to an external or network drive… if Plex cannot access the data directory it’ll create a new one in the default directory (leaving you with a vanilla server)
I am just creating a new folder on the same hard drive and I am copying it now. But will take few hours to complete. Can this help to refresh the server and make it see new folders of TV shows ?
No… that should be completely unrelated
What you recommend ? I try the following.
- In the past when I had this problem I deleted the new TV show folder and paste it again on server folder. Normally this was able to resolve the problem. But when I do it now, nothing happen.
There is anything on the server settings that I should do ?
I recommend to start reviewing the folder structure/organization and file names.
Are the TV Show files on a network drive, or a local drive? If the files are remote (like on a NAS or other computer), then you may need to do a manual Scan Library Files of the library for Plex to detect the new files in the location.
If the files are local, then do a scan anyway. Maybe you turned off Scan my library automatically in Settings > Library, so the server doesn’t notice the new content on its own.
The new shows are in a local drive. How do I manual Scan Library Files ?
I checkec the naming of the new TV shows and the folder directory seems proper.
Plex Documentation
→ Library Actions
→ Scanning vs Refreshing a Library
- Mouse over the library name.
- Click on the three dots.
- Choose Scan Library Files
You can also do this in Settings → Libraries (the three dots are vertical, not horizontal).

Thanks I have done it. I don’t know what to do.
Can I reinstall PEX server without losing all my changes/edits ?
I mean PLEX
Reinstallation usually is not necessary.
Can you provide a screenshot or directory listing showing the full path and file names, including extensions?
Also, try the Plex Dance with the show.
I did the PLEX Dance procedure, but didn’t help, thanks,
Try this:
Foundations of Western Civilization II A History of the Modern Western World {tvdb-386747}
<—Show folder
Season 01
<---- Season folder
Episodes in here
When I change the show folder to:
“Foundations of Western Civilization II A History of the Modern Western World”
The server recognizes and add it, when I change to the original name:
“Great Courses - The Foundations of Western Civilization II” the server can’t add it ???!!
Is this because I have 2 show folders with similar names:
and
??? Does the PLEX server only accept show folders with a name on their list ??
