Server Version#:7.3-81180
Player Version#: 1.4159626
As has been posted with the title as above but for DSM 7.2, Same issue, Everything worked fine prior to last week’s update to 7.3, The listed media files are all from prior to the Synology update and adding new files are ignored by Plex. Appears to scan but realizes no changes. I tried all the usual permission checks and resets and still nothing. I have not uninstalled/reinstalled PlexMediaServer. Ready to give it up. Infuse, by the way, works fine. Thanks for the feedback.
Will PMS find and recognize (scan and match) if you invoke a manual “Scan Files”?
No. That was the first thing I tried, as well as checking and toggling all the associated permissions.
So, no fix, right?
Could you restart Plex, wait 3 mins, then grab your server logs and post them here, thanks.
I’m sorry I missed your post.
Either Trumpy or I can help you resolve it once we see the logs ZIP file.
Thanks, guys. Here ya go……

Clean up media file naming and organization.
- Follow Plex naming and organization requirements.
- No mixing movies and tv shows. They must be in separate libraries.
- Extra info (resolution, etc.) inside one set of square brackets at end of media file name or movie/show folder name.
- You may need to Plex Dance the movie/show after renaming/reorganization to clear incorrect information from the Plex Media Server database.

There are tools that can help. Here’s a shortlist. The free version of Tiny Media Manager works for most people.
Many people use Filebot. It is quite powerful and can rename an entire library in minutes.
Tiny Media Manager is also very useful, and free.
Example TMM Renamer Patterns:
- Show Name:
${showTitle} (${showYear}) - Season:
Season ${seasonNr2} - Episode Name:
${showTitle} (${showYear}) s${seasonNr2}e${episodeNr2} ${episode.title} - Movie Name:
${title} (${year})
PowerRenamer in Microsoft Power Tools is helpful for simple renaming with pattern matches or regular expressions. It makes quick work of tasks such as adding a year to file names, removing undesirable text from multiple files, etc
Thanks.
I did most of that stuff. “clean bundles (in the menu next to server name, when accessed under ‘More’. Or alternatively under Settings - [server name] - Manage - Troubleshooting.)” does not exist as an option, so that did not happen. I did adjust the naming appropriately and deleted the files that I no longer desire. Deleted the path to the media on the Synology drive and. essentially, started up a new library and re-scan.
Result: no change. Plex only recognized the 7 TV files as it had in the past, For fun, I replaced them with the “incorrect” file names and tried again (with delete/empty trash, restart Synology and restart Plex), and again, no change. Plex does not seem to care if the filenames meet it’s requirement or not. Never has. I don’t understand why I bothered to change it in the first place.
Thanks for your advice. Appreciated your time.
I think I’m done with Plex.
Your server is running (LAN IP 192.168.6.119)
It checked in with Plex.tv only 27 minutes ago.
Given it’s running on the Syno, you can open Plex/web from Package Center as well.
Where/how are you trying to access it? Plex/web from the local lan by IP address (same subnet) will always work.
Troubleshooting is found here:
Server name (top left red rectangle) may be a drop down menu if you have more than one server, so make sure you have selected the correct server to work with.
If you only have one server then you can ignore that instruction.
Next, your folder and file names are very important and so are their location. Follow the instructions and links given by @FordGuy61.
Do NOT mix TV Shows with Movies, Plex will ignore files named like TV Shows when placed in a Movies library and vice versa. You have been warned.
Your media should be organised like so:
Media/
Movies/
TV Shows/
Photos/
Music/
Create the Media folder in Control Panel > Shared Folders. Use File Station to add the other folders.
You place each type of media in the appropriate folder above. Movies go in the Movies folder, TV Shows in the TV Show folder etc.
Your libraries should point to the appropriate folder above. Movies library points to the Movies folder ONLY. TV Shows should ONLY point to the TV Shows folder etc.
The Media folder must also have the proper permissions and so must all of the folders and files within it.
You do that by opening File Station on your NAS, then right click on the Media folder and select Properties.
On the Permission tab, highlight PlexMediaServer and click on Edit.
Make sure all options are selected.
Click on Done, then make sure you enable Apply to this folder, sub-folders and files and then click on Save.
It may take some time for the process to complete.
After that, assuming your files are CORRECTLY named, Plex should have no problem scanning them into your appropriate library.
