When you uninstall the software, your data in the Plex share isn’t touched.
When you install PMS, it goes out and searches for an existing Plex share. If it finds it, it uses it.
I did that deliberately when I wrote it. I did that to allow you to move the Plex share to a new volume if/when necessary without losing data
If you only uninstalled from Package Center and then re-installed, No further action is necessary because the installer did just as I described above. It went out, found the existing Plex share, and recorded that location to use.
Well, that was a smart move on your part. And would’ve worked had I not moved the Plex folder prior to installing the new version.
I am in the process of copying the Plex.old folder to Plex. Once that is done, I will restart PMS. If that fails to work as hoped, I will uninstall and re-install PMS, which then should behave exactly as you described.
Move back all of the Plex share, in it’s entirety.
When move is completed, manually set all permissions again from within the share before starting PMS
Give yourself R/W to the Plex share (I assume you have already)
File Station -> Plex -> right-click -> Properties
Set the owner to user plex for this folder, subfolders, and files (this verifies everything is owned by Plex again.
Now the data is ready to go
You can restart PMS. If it fails to restart, restart DSM and let it come up normally
I have the same problem.
My plex server was working great until this update and then refused to start.
I have done Q7,7a,Q3 in the FAQ (Synology FAQ's ... Read This First!) several time and installed PlexMediaServer-1.13.4.5271-200287a06-x86_64.spk.
Now I can connect to the web interface but the interface doesn’t see my local server (fs5) at 10.253.33.80
It can’t find the server and I cannot figure it out.
(fs5.greff.info:32400/web/index.html)
It does see news ans podcast(Beta) which I never saw before.
I attached the logs and I would appreciate any help.
I have a synology DS416j
Thank you

Hi, Same problem here; DS1515+ with latest DSM. Received an MariaDB error (empty password; changed it) yesterday; about the same time plex will not work anymore. 'Failed to run the package service’ error, also after updating to latest 64-bit (was running the previous version) and reboot of the NAS.
I also had the PLEX service wouldn’t start after the latest Synology DSM upgrade that was applied automatically.
After reading through this thread, i downloaded and manually installed the 64 BIT version of PLEX and this fixed the issue, it would now start fine on my Synology.
If the latest DSM version killed the 32 bit version, the Synology app database should probably be changed to only download and install the 64 bit version. I had no idea until now that I even had the 32 bit version. I just picked it out of the catalog of apps and hit install, I don’t remember even having an option to install the 64 bit one. So someone should probably update that Synology app DB i think.
I am getting the failed to start error even after uninstalling the old package, removing the plex user account, restarting DSM and manually installing 1.13.4.5271-200287a06 (64-bit). Any ideas?
I’m on a 1515+
I think I accidentally installed the old package from synology after removing the version I had installed that was working prior to the 6.2 update. I realized my mistake, removed it and then tried to re-install the last version I had downloaded (1.13.0.5023-31d3c0c65-x86), which I now realize was also a 32-bit version. Anyway, it was after uninstalling that, wiping the plex account, restarting and installing 1.13.4.5271-200287a06-x86_64 that I’m not getting it to start. Do I need to reset DSM and recover my settings from backup?
