I think that is a reasonable approach.
I do not see any reasonable reason to not have 64 bit PMS on a 64 bit system with DSM >= 6.2
I have a DS1517+ and I am having this issue after updating to DSM 6.2 update 2. The 32 bit version was installed, so I uninstalled it and when I go to Manual Install the 64 bit version the installer errors and says the Operation has failed. Tried multiple browsers, still failed. Iâm able to manually install the 32 bit version (and doesnât run), but 64 bit fails to install.
Iâll try connecting directly to it via IP when I get back to my home network to see if that makes a difference and update you guys accordingly.
EDIT: Got this working when I connected to the NAS via IP address on local network and uploaded the 64 bit version. All is working fine now.
Ditto here as well, even tried to uninstall and install older version, still no joy.
Unsure about âhow I feelâ. If I am not suppose to run 64 bit version on the 1515+ I would rather not do that. I am recreating the metadata now and I have not seen any issues yet. But unsure if anything âbadâ might happen later.
Yep im having the same problem, after Synology/DSM update 6.2-23739-2 Plex will not start, reboots and restores to older version of plex no go. I tried to reinstall as well.
Where were you last night when I had to reset and install DSM twice on my system to get it back to Update 1? After I tried all the usual things, like uninstalling and reinstalling, trying older versions, etc.
Didnât even know there was a 64-bit version, or I would have been using it all this time. Add my name to the list of people saying thanks!
May I ask why? the 64 bit version on your 64 bit processor is a) faster and b) consumes less memory. I have a DS1815+
Sorry about having to go to sleep. I finally got to bed at 4am EST.
There are a couple issues to resolve but once I get
a) Some initial feedback from you folks
b) Feedback from Plex Engineering
c) Talk to Synology and see if there is a potential flaw or they closed a loophole which 32 bit PMS accidentally was using in 32 bit mode. This is a deep level of Root Cause Analysis I still need perform
I can and will make whatever modifications are necessary to the Synology package to prevent the 32 bit package from running on the 64 bit systems if thatâs what it takes. I think that is a serious kludge but it will prevent this from happening again.
I guess just always used the 32 bit version. Maybe that was not correct. I guess I was asking if the 64 bit version was ok for the 1515+âŠwhich I expected it would be. Just wanted to make sure there was nothing obvious that I was missing. I guess since I started out using the 32 bit versionâŠall the updates were 32 bit version. I never went back the the website to get the download from where i would have seen the 64 bit version to question if I was running the correct one at any point. Sounds like I am ok using the 64 bit version going forward. Thanks.
Part of the issue, which isnât your or anyoneâs fault is Synology only offers you the 32 bit version to download. Now that Synology is making this distinction with DSM 6.2 U2, I need to find out why and press them to offer the 64 bit package.
I see what you mean. If my first install of Plex was via DSM. I would only get the 32 bit version. But I got my Plex update from the link in Plex itslef when I saw the notice when I started it up, and that seems to be related to the version currently installed. So if I wanted to be notified that I âcould/Shouldâ use the 64 bit version instead. That would be a good place to get that notice. It that is possible.
I had the same problem today⊠DS2415+
What treasurechest suggested totally worked!
Thank you!!!
Donât worry about it. This is clearly Synologyâs fault. As long as the 64-bit version is working for me on my 916+, Iâm good. If I had known there was a 64-bit version prior to today, I would have been using that instead, and never even known this problem existed. Oh well.
Good to know you are on top of things and working to resolve it. Maybe future versions of PMS should probe the hardware and see if itâs 64-bit capable. If so, change the link to 64-bit versions when you get the notice that a new PMS version is available. That may have its own set of issues Iâm not considering, but might be better than relying on Synology.
So now that I am running the 64 bit version. Will the updates that I get notified of inside the Plex program itself be linked to the 64 bit version of the update? Or will I have to go the download on the Plex site to get it? Just confirming.
Folks,
I have recreated the problem here. I see what youâre seeing.
- PMS actually does start to run.
- PMS is just about to open the web server and receives a shutdown signal (15) apparently from the exception you see reported on the console output.
- The crash report is generated and file uploaded.
- Before the report can be written, it fails hard
Iâm tracking it manually now
Same here. Plex was fine before DSM update. Does not start after updateâŠ
Nice guys,
Had some problem here, tried many things, and indeed, I was surprised an issue with lib32 stdc++ libraries in a 64bits dsmâŠ
Manual installation solved it for me.
64bit version solved the issue for me too!
