Followed most of the advise here. No luck. Facing same issue after update. I am also of the opinion this is a DSM update issue. I dont want to risk downgrading to the previous version as I am not sure what is going to happen and ruin my entire setup. Hoping some or many have reported this to Synology?

#1 DO NOT PANIC - DO NOT DELETE THE PLEX SHARE

#2 Management is in contact with Synology.

#3 Did you read my post directly above yours? Everyone who has experienced the problem has been successful in restoring normal PMS operation by uninstalling the 32 bit version and installing the 64 bit version of PMS from http://plex.tv/downloads

If you have followed the sequence, What information can you provide me ? What steps did you take prior to coming to this point?

This worked for me. DS3612XS after auto DSM update

Morning, thank you for that. All working now.

As PLEX stopped working yesterday (18/07/2018) I tried reinstalling it, downloaded the latest version from the PLEX site and tried that. But as Synology only ever installed the 32bit version from their Package Center catalogue, I had naturally been trying to install the 32bit version - that used to run OK.
The darn thing would not run: so I even deleted my “Plex” folder because that was the apparent solution on some website. But Plex still would not run.

I eventually came across this thread, and tried the recommendation to install the 64bit version of Plex from their Website. For some weird reason my DS916+ did not want to upload the SPK for the first 2 tries (it just hung on “processing.”)

Eventually it did install the 64bit PLEX and it now works!!!  :grinning:

Had the same problem on a DS916+. First of all thanks to @treasureChest, @ChuckPa and @trumpy81 for their quick reaction, and also guys you go ahead and take all the rest you need, it’s important. The big majority of the people on this topic are thankful, don’t let a few overly angry comments ruin your day and efforts.
Then I can confirm that uninstalling actual PMS from DSM Package center, and installing 64 bit version of package manually downloaded spk package from plex website works.
Actually I do believe that only the 64bit version of PMS will allow hardware video transcoding on Intel based NAS such as mine, so I believe it is actually better to install the 64 bit version (I believe this feature is restricted to Plex Pass owners only though).
Thanks again !

Same hardware (916+) here. Manual start shows the same as others:

I upgraded to the 64-bit version of Plex now and it works! Didn’t even consider that I might have been running the 32-bit version (64 bit really should be the default choice).

64bit version worked for me as well… no clue why the Synology update caused the 32-bit version to stop loading.

From Plex site download the latest version, select package PlexMediaServer-1.13.4.5251-2e6e8f841-x86_64.spk

Running ok on DS415+
I had initially the same error with Plex not starting after DSM update 2

If people would, please look at the last posts, and read up til you find the plex team’s responses. They published a fix, that you can download from their site. Yes, the 64bit version still works, but there are a few options and Plex’s team is doing quite well supporting all this.

Yay! I have a DS416 Play and I use it primarily for streaming. Replaced the 32bit version with the 64bit version and it works well. To make sure, I’ve disabled auto update for Plex in package manager.

Phew!

Let me give everyone a Post Game report:

  1. Whether product lifecycle or accidental, DSM 6.2 Update 2 removed 32 bit support on 64 bit systems as far as Plex is concerned. This is what made it stop running
  2. We’ve asked for confirmation of what should be happening from Synology
  3. I couldn’t wait. I’d get strung up by my toes if I didn’t  LOL
  4. The SPK (Synology PacKage) file everyone installs has been changed internally.
  5. Only the DS214play and the DS415play (the only remaining 32 bit systems capable of running PMS) are allowed to install 32 bit PMS.
  6. All others must install the 64 bit version
  7. If the 32 bit version is attempted on a 64, Package Center will report it’s not compatible. I had no other choice but have it report this way because, technically, it isn’t anymore.
  8. A ‘hotfix’ was pushed through engineering to get this put into position and on the downloads site
  9. A hotfix was pushed to the plex.tv admin to update the download page.
  10. PMS 1.3.4 was reissued with the packaging changes
  11. The next build of PMS from Engineering will automatically pick this updated configuration.

Questions?

Looks like I might be the odd man out. I think I followed the directions. DS416Play. I’m on DSM 6.2-23739 Update 2. I downloaded from the Plex Web site: the Synology 64 bit option: 1.13.2.5154-fd05be322 That seems to be a bit different from the folks above. Could that be it? Regardless have restarting a few times, Plex still doesn’t run. Thanks
