After PMS has been moved, it is OK to use the Plex share however you wish. If you want media in it – that’s ok. It’s for your use now. Use or delete as you want.
Since PMS doesn’t know you have library sections then your server didn’t get moved.
Do you still have a Plex/ Library / Application Support / Plex Media Server folder with “Preferences.xml” in it?
@ChuckPa Yes, it was very little space used.
I just uninstalled Plex again and erase everything from the PlexMediaServer shared folder before installing it again.
Right now it is installing but taking to much time (10 min and not done yet).
It just finished and the Migration completed appeared.
I just opened Plex App and reclaimed the server, everything seams to be working as usual, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
The only thing that I notice is that the users do not have any library shared with them. Can that be fixed or I have to share the libraries again?
Regarding the Spanish menu prompts, some parts are still in English, the parts in Spanish are fine, maybe some words can be improved but nothing to worry. If you want, I can help you and the Plex Teams with the translation to Spanish.
Hi, hopefully someone here can help me sort out why my migration doesn’t seem to have worked as expected. None of my media transferred during the migration and remains in the “Plex” shared folder despite the new “PlexMediaServer” containing the AppData, Metadata, etc. The migration log (located in the original “Plex” shared folder) even says completed: Clean /volume1/Plex.
I’m currently running PMS 1.23.2.4973 on a ds1019+.
Installed DSM 7 yesterday without any issues, I think.
System internal user PMS has full access to “Plex” shared folder and all its subfolders.
There is only 1 volume and 2 shared folders within it, “Plex” at ~47TB and “PlexMediaServer” at ~17GB.
It appears everything migrated except the actual media.
The server still seems to work, so maybe I don’t mess with it?
I’m not particularly computer literate.
Perhaps I missed or misunderstood something, but wasn’t all of the “Plex” shared folder supposed to migrate?
Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
@ChuckPa
Gotcha, many thanks. I misunderstood what the end result was supposed to be.
I’ll review that post for any other details.
Thanks again for clearing that up
You’re right (mea culpa), I only read the first migration/update notes. I was more concerned about moving my Plex install from one NAS to another new NAS and had only read the Plex notes for those steps. My upgrade to DSM 7 on my old/original NAS had went well (at least in the sense that there were no visible changes to the operability of my Plex services) so I assumed I was ok.
My issues then started when I tried to move the Plex install (on DSM 7) to the new NAS (also DSM 7). At first, I couldn’t find the PlexMediaServer files needed for the new install on the new NAS. When I did find them (courtesy of the latest Plex update) and moved them over to the new NAS, the new Plex install wouldn’t recognize them. I then got confused as to the new structure being required for the PMS files and also which version of Plex to download. That’s when I headed to the forums…
Soooooo, I have read through everything you provided and have started from scratch. I have unistalled the Plex version I had on the old NAS and am in the process installing it (it is into 40 minutes of install/initiation and going…). I have also put in place the folder structure you indicated on the new NAS (Plex/Library/Application Support), and when the old NAS install completes, I will move the Plex Media Server folder over to be under the Application Support folder.
Once that’s done, I will download the latest Plex version (not from the Synology Package Store) and install it. Then with fingers crossed (and possibly the sacrifice of a small farm animal (chicken or goat I’m thinking)), I will open the Plex and see my old Plex media (although not available because I haven’t migrated the media files from old to new NAS).
Does this sound right? Am I still missing a step?
Again many thanks listening to my very basic and irritating questions.
