Server Version#: 1.16.0.1226
Player Version#: 3.95.2
Several months ago, Plex stopped auto-updating on me. Whenever a new server version is out, it will pop up that there is a new version, but even if I download and install it, it won’t actually install.
I’ve been having to download the latest version from the web site and manually install it to update. When I do, the installation takes an excessive amount of time.
I found a few other threads with the same issue, but no fix.
Another update. Still the same issue.
I have the same issue
I’m having the same issue installing the newest update (1.16.2.1321). Has anyone found a solution for this?
I was able to download the update and install it manually. It installs very quickly. Problem solved.
That doesn’t solve the problem. The problem is that it is not installing automatically any more. Installing manually is a workaround, not a solution.
1.16.4.1469 just came out for me and, once again, no auto-update.
Are you saying that after doing a manual update the next release doesn’t automatically update?
I think my issue is pretty clear as originally stated.
I cannot manually start an update using the website.
It does not automatically update.
The only way I can update whatsoever is a manual update by downloading the installation file from Plex’s downloads.
Restart PMS, wait 3 minutes, open Web and check for update. Upload PMS log.
If those logs are not being updated, then it sounds like you might be running PMS under a different user, so the logs would be under that user folder. That would also explain why the auto update does not work.
My comment above is still valid. Are you running PMS under a different user? Check the task manager.
I’ve parsed through the logs from prior to the manual update I already did today and don’t see anything out of the ordinary. I’ll have to wait on a new release to get a cleaner log.
New update came out today. Is this the log you’re asking for?

I would like to see all the logs. Find G:\Plex Media Server\Logs. Zip the entire folder and upload that zip file.
No, there’s entirely too much personal information in those logs to blindly enclose all of them.
You can PM the log to me if you do not want to make it public.
Hi All I am having the same issue now again a new version 1.16.6.1592 does not want tinstall
i ha eft i for hous and sill dest insll wht sthe issue why are whavihese issues
Here is my opinion. Your issue is two-fold:
You have moved the Plex data folder to a ‘naked’ drive letter, without pointing it to a folder.
Step one:
Move your plex data from G:\Plex Media Server\ to G:\Plex\Plex Media Server\ using this procedure: Moving Metadata on Windows - #3 by OttoKerner
Step two:
Edit the Windows registry as described in this post (make sure all Plex processes and system services are stopped beforehand)
