Plex not detecting TV Shows! Please HELP!

Thanks, @MovieFan.Plex learning something new is quite common here.

At times here I feel like the boy at the back of the room in an old “Far Side” cartoon: “Mrs. Brown, may I go home now? My brain is full.”

I was having the same problem everything named properly. all files working fine for months and a few days ago it just didn’t recognize any newly added files? nothing different done just added new files to the same old file directory and it just never added to the plex server it shows up when looking in plex folder mode but will say the file is empty. all my other files play fine still, and the file itself will play using the computer video player . I tried deleting reinstalling and earlier Version 0.9.15.6 of the plex server and started adding the files and naming them on the https://app.plex.tv/web/app as if it was the first time remembering to sign into my account. and that seemed to fix it the new and old files have loaded in great and are playing fine. I hope this can help. :slight_smile:

The files in your ‘iZombie’ folder look perfectly regular and a properly executed Plex Dance should make them available.

Have you checked permissions on these folder(s)? The Syno FAQ (Q5) mentions users Plex and admin
I am no Synology expert, better refer to the pro’s in the Synology subforum on how to change permissions.

After reading carefully what @OttoKerner said this little part of the permissions as put me a bug on the head and I start investigating…

So the folders were moved to my new Harddrivers and I put all my users with access read/write so it should work.

Even so I start reading all the Syno Faq and found the following Q:

Q19: I added media, but it does not show up in Plex?

    To make chmod 777 to the new folders that I did.

And Guess WHAT??

My assumption:

  • I think this is due to SickRage, On Synology when installing it doesn’t add the user to the system. So when I add to my users to new folders it din’t give the sickrage user.

I never thought that was a permission user since I had given to all users read/write by the synology system and forgot the sickrage user

So I will test the move with sickrage with altering the name to see if now works fine.

So I want to thank everyone for the positive feedback and all the support given on this matter.

After my final test I will post a new update

Unless you want to give everyone on your network and possibly someone not on your network full access to delete and mess with your files, you don’t want to give them 777 access. It’ll give you some relief since it is going, however you’ll need to have a look at how to set it up so that harm does not happen. Take a look at this.
