Recently, Plex TV Agent has stopped recognizing the show Detail: From the Mind of Peyton Manning (TVDB ID 355032) and instead matches it as Detail: From the Mind of Kobe Bryant (TVDB ID 346255). They use to both match correctly just fine, but sometime recently the Peyton Manning show stopped showing up all so now there are duplicate entries in the Kobe series. Plex dance does not help, neither does trying to “Fix Match” since searching for it in the fix match screen doesn’t bring up the Peyton show no matter what I search for. Even searching for “tvdb-355032” in fix match to pull the show up directly only returns the Kobe Bryant version despite it having a different TVDB id.
The mismatch shows up in the log files. Plex will have to fix it in their database.
Jan 07, 2022 22:09:38.113 [0x2f8bdd48] DEBUG - Scanner [Plex TV Series]: found cloud match for file '/volume1/plex/TV Shows/Detail From the Mind of Peyton Manning (2018) {tvdb-355032}/Season 01/Detail From the Mind of Peyton Manning (2018) - s01e01.mkv': 'Detail: From the Mind of Kobe Bryant'
Thanks, I figured it was something Plex side. Is there any way to change the scanner/agent for just one series or can that only be configured for the whole library? Overall I love the new scanner because it’s way faster but there’s a couple scenarios where I would like one series to be either TVDB or TheMovieDB.
You can change if Plex uses the TVDB or TheMovieDB for episode ordering on a per-show basis. Edit the show, choose Advanced, and look for Episode Ordering. Choices are Library Default, TheMovieDB, or TVDB Aired/DVD/Absolute. To edit the show at the library level, mouse over the show poster and click the pencil icon in lower left corner (see this post for an example). You can also choose the pencil icon on the TV show page.
Unfortunately, that won’t help with “…Peyton Manning.” Unless I missed it, the show is not listed at TheMovieDB.
Give Plex a few days to work on this. It is the weekend and some people were probably still on vacation this week.
Yeah that’s what I use now for a couple shows where I use tmdb for ordering (like Pokemon), but I tried that it it doesn’t help in this scenario since it wont match the show in the first place since it’s not in the Plex TV Agent. I don’t want to switch the agent for my whole library since like I said I’ve really enjoyed it otherwise.
The show is “Detail,” and the individual episodes are “From the Mind of” the various hosts.
Peyton Manning has an episode “Breaking Down Joe Burrow,” which IMDB has as season 6, episode 3.
Short of TheTVDb straightening out their listings, I’m not sure there is a good way to display this in Plex.
I suppose you could put the show in a personal media library. Plex will not try to match it to any online databases. That would at least have the show displayed and not misidentified.
One other possible option is to use an MP4 container, embed correct metadata, and configure Plex to use the metadata. Given how messed up the show is on TMDB, I’m not sure how well this would work.
Edit: I opened a ticket at TheTVDB asking them to list the show the same as at IMDB. I’ve never opened a ticket with them before, so not sure of their responsiveness. Hopefully they can easily import the show info from IMDB, forgoing the need to manually edit everything.
Edit 2: Well that was quick. Just received a reply, “I have been meaning to get to these records, so thanks for the reminder. I believe we are going to set up a singular “Detail” record and roll the seasons under named seasons. Let me get this set up and I will try and get back to you this week.” I’ll update when I hear back from them.
While this may not be a solution its a possible alternative to consider. I do see that TMDB has listed separate series for two of these type of shows …
The metadata is rather sparse but I do wonder if matching off TMDB id and changing the episode ordering to The Movie Database. If that works you could consider creating an entry on TMDB for Peyton Manning and updating the metadata for the other shows.
Actually I do see the standalone Detail series on there. Unfortunately the exact same thing is happening in Plex that was happening with the Peyton series. In doesn’t show up in fix match and even searching for the tvdb id of 415087 just returns the Kobe series.
Well, from what I’ve read above it’s not an issue with Plex, it’s the metadata provider TheTVDB.com. You might get a better result dealing with them directly rather than here.
