Both Plex and Plexamp can no longer find my media server when the server PC has VPN enabled. It has been working fine until today. If I turn off VPN, the server is found.

You need to make sure Plex Media Server is properly configured for remote access, including potentially custom access URLs.
Also make sure VPN split tunneling is correctly configured.
Remote access has been working for years, long before I started paying to access my personal media server remotely. The configuration has not changed and my Plex media server says it’s fully accessible outside my network.
Split tunneling has never been configured and it has worked this way for years. I guess I’m thinking that with more and more sites challenging VPN connections, maybe Plex has jumped on that boat, too.
Nothing has changed in the Plexamp code in terms of finding media server, so it must be something external. We’re happy to look at Plexamp logs to see what connections it’s trying if it’s helpful.
