Plex randomly jumping forward during playback

Well i have a Samsung Frame with latest Player Version#: 3.109.2, and im still using 1.15.3.876 on a synology nas ( 16gb ram) without updating and it was rando freezing - un-ticking direct play and stream( could only find this on the tv software) made no difference it kept freezing every 30 secs or so, only for video, audio stayed playing fine.
Had to copy file to an external HDD and play it directly to the tv for it not to stuff around.

You do not roll back on the TV but in your computer where PLEX server is installed. You remove plex & install 1.16.3.1402 instead.Make sure that update in PLEX server is not set to automatic update otherwise you will end-up with the new version again.

+1 Same problem with a Qnap NAS with Plex version 1.16.5.1488 and a Samsung TV. Unable to find previous version for QNAP Intel/AMD 64-bit to download :frowning:

Same issue. 2 Samsung 2016 TVs. Please let us know when it’s fixed.

Same issue here. Up to date OS X Plex server, Samsung KS8000. Video buffers and skips forward randomly. Switched to using Plex on Apple TV until this is resolved.

APP 4.1.1
It also jumps as before, nothing has changed. It only got worse, now when you start 4K movies, the TV completely freezes

It has nothing to do with the Samsung TV app, its the Plex server app. Go back to the version everyone has advised.

@ChuckPa: Thanks for the update! Can you somehow estimate when there will be an updated server version, so that we can better decide between waiting and downgrading?

As far as I can see, although there are some Samsung TVs not having the issue - we e.g. have an older J-Series from 2015 (UE32J4570) playing fine and a newer KU-Series (UE55KU6179 with Plex App 4.1.1 and Tizen 2.4.0) that is randomly jumping forward with / without buffering as described above - the issue seems not to be related to the Samsung / Client App itself, but rather be caused ONLY by the newest server versions (1.16.4.XXXX-1.16.5.XXXX). Is that correct?

So, what would you recommend as intermediate solution:

  1. Wating for the server update and disabling Direct Play / Streaming on the Client App
  2. Downgrading the server to 1.16.3.1402 (e.g. https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server-new/1.16.3.1402-22929c8a2/windows/PlexMediaServer-1.16.3.1402-22929c8a2-x86.exe?_ga=2.158105914.1088812421.1566383084-1966791419.1564921129 on Windows)

?

Plex usually doesn’t post ETAs; as far as work around go, do whichever you’re most comfortable with

OK, I understand, @darcilicious, but this question is not primarily about an ETA, but rather about the “best” workaround for the time being, cf. my question above. So, what would you recommend? Bad enough, that so many paying Plex Pass Users need a workaround like this, because of obviously too few Samsung Beta testers around …

You asked two questions, I answered both.

For me? I would disable direct play. For someone else, they may choose to downgrade the server.

Seem to be having the same issue as others have described. Running a Synology DS718+ Plex Server. Playback on my Samsung KS8500 is now skipping forward and buffering while direct streaming over DLNA.

I have the most up to date version of Samsung Tizen PLEX (Will update with version)
Plex Server Version : 1.16.5.1488

Currently disabled direct play within the samsung plex app and playback is working as intended via transcoding.

Current stream working fine is -

Video : 1080P H.264 Direct Stream
Audio: English (DTS 5.1) - ACC Transcode

Hit this issue with my Samsung KS7000 with PMS on Windows (1.16.5.something). I uninstalled Plex and reinstalled 1.16.3 and it picked up everything and worked fine.

Thanks for the info! Looks like I will be rolling back like you did to get things back up and running.

The challenge here is that the server update was the problem, not the Samsung app or other players. I’m on synology, and there’s no rolling that back. Plex has identified the problem, so a server patch seems appropriate, but they’ve never been about urgency.

In situations like this where Plex knows there is a major problem, they should have rolled back the server update until the issue could be identified and fixed. But they just leave us hanging in the wind until they get around to updating. That’s bad form. With any major change, Plex should be on standby to react to inevitable issues, but their efforts are fully on development.

For Samsung you can disable direct play for the short term work around. Not sure if that will help with other clients.

I havent done it just yet on my DS718+ but I noticed the package centers version of PMS is 1.13. You could potentially uninstall the current version and install the PC version and then opt to not update until its be patched.

So just to confirm, people are still having issues, even on the latest update that came through today? sighs

What version is that? I thought PMS 1.16.5.1488 was the latest, released a few days ago.

Oh, well it may be, but I just got the update today. So the issues persist?
