Plex remote access issues - cannot connect securely

same issue here today all of sudden i can access on my local network but nobody can access outside doesnt even work on plex app anymore? but in the desktop it shows GREEN and says fully accessible outside network, so anyone know how to fix?

Hello, since yesterday evening, we cannot access our Plex server remotely. AppleTV doesn’t connect to it anymore, web browsers having same issue.

The only way I had was to connect my computer through VPN but I cannot use it when not home… and AppleTV cannot use VPN either… Is it still a certificate issue ? Thanks to let me know. Loving your app !

Regards

Steph

[mod edit: cert is in good condition and valid.]

Ok well I restarted the server, I’m trying to change the ports, disabling and re-enabling remote access but no change it still fails miserably… Despite we haven’t made any change on the server from our side… And the last update of the server was made way before encountering the issue… I’m lost.

I too am having cert issues, can it be checked?
MessageCERT: Error acquiring new certificate: Failed to upload CSR: 429, <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

[mod edit: The current certificate is perfectly valid. Apparently, your server has issues storing it, because you have requested 5 new certificates within 24 hours. Hence the rate limiting. Verify your container config and the access permissions of all files within the /Cache subfolder of the Plex data folder. Please open your own forum thread for follow-up quesions.]

I am experiencing remote access issues and have a “[CERT/OCSP] getCertInfo failed; skipping stapling” message. Can I be checked for impact? I am able to access my server via app.plex.tv but my mobile device and friends cannot access. Settings shows my server as fully accessible remotely.

I’m having the same issue.

I’m having the same issue.

To the last 3 posters: your trouble is most likely connected ot the outage of plex.tv a few hours ago. https://status.plex.tv/

Please stop and restart your server(s) and see how that goes.

@OttoKerner - no such luck. After a restart of the server, I’m still seeing:

Hi. I can stream from my server either locally or remotely when connected using the Plex account linked to the server, but this doesn’t work when trying to access the shared libraries with another account. The server simply shows up offline, again both locally or remotely. The logs show warnings related to certificates, like these.

I’ve tried re-installing, logging out and back in, for both my server and clients apps. Tried with removing sharing access to the other account, and sharing again, but it won’t work. Can someone take a look? Thanks in advance.

Is there another possible solution here? We’ve been chugging along in our current configuration for years without issue, but now we can’t seem to setup a remote connection no matter what ISP we’re on, or what the firewall is doing.

Hi, I would like help here aswell please thanks!

Hello. I’m new to plex. For several days now I can’t reach any content on my pc that has the plex server setup. I can’t reach anything I can see it once I’m inside my home network but can’t see anything on my mobile neither through the app nor the browser while I’m on the go. I rebooted my PC several times. I personally have not done anything except update my PC for some sort of windows update and updated the plex apps. I only get the message when using the browser “server unavailable”. Please help and speak in terms I can understand. Thank you.

Not sure what happened between my posts but suddenly everything is working again. If someone did something on the back end. Thank you!!!

Hello,

It seems I’m in the same boat as everyone else. For the last week or so, my remote access has stopped working. I’ve had this Plex server running for over 2 years with no issues. Setup is on a linux ubuntu distribution, automatic updates of the server (including the email for the one manual update that was required a few weeks ago), and all my port forwarding, etc. is unchanged from before.

I can access other items on my home server from outside of my home so I know the forwarding isn’t the issue, hoping it’s something easily solvable. Like others, if i turn off/on the remote access…i get the green “available” for about 5-10 seconds, and then it goes back to not accessible.

any help is appreciated…sadly now more than ever as my wife is in hospital for the last week, and likely there another few weeks, and would love to access our family videos to throw a smile on her face while recovering from the reasons she’s there.

thank you!

Hi @OttoKerner I accidentally deleted my cert during a borked re-installation job. Can a Plex Ninja renew my cert, please?

[mod edit: Please stop and restart your server(s) and see how that goes. Though I doubt a new cert will change anything.]

[user edit: @OttoKerner The restart did not fix. Any reason I am wrong in my assumption on the cert issue? Or is there something else I should try? Thanks!]

Hi, could I please get a check for my cert? Everything works through local apps, but trying to access via plex.tv says it can’t connect securely. Logs show the following:

DEBUG - [CERT/OCSP] no URL available
WARN - [CERT/OCSP] getCertInfo failed; skipping stapling

Thank you!

@OttoKerner Can you please check my cert as well?

I’m getting this error:

May 12, 2026 13:44:57.037 [83440] DEBUG - [CERT/OCSP] no URL available
May 12, 2026 13:44:57.037 [83440] WARN - [CERT/OCSP] getCertInfo failed; skipping stapling

@OttoKerner looks like I’m also getting a stuck certificate

May 16, 2026 10:38:24.280 [4044] ERROR - CERT: Error acquiring new certificate: Failed to upload CSR: 429, <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<errors>
  <error code="1003" message="API rate limit exceeded" status="429"/>
</errors>

Add another one to your list :frowning:

[mod edit: Please stop and restart your server now.]

[user edit: That worked, all set, thank you much for the assistance]
