Plex Remote Access Stopped Working

The developers are very aware of this issue and are working on determining the issue and implementing a fix. When I hear more I will update this thread.

Also @darrenclimienewman - Plex Server is free. Plex Pass gets you access to a beta release and other perks as outlined in the various FAQ pages, but in no way are you being charged for using the Plex Server.

That’s great, but replying to one thread isn’t the best way to tell people there is an issue.

They have everyone’s email address as part of registration, just email everyone with service update…

Thanks

OK let me rephrase is then… People that DO pay for Plex for the advanced features, ie. Hardware Transcoding, like myself, I think it’s reasonable to at least update those members on issues. As other people have said, they spend hours trying to look at internal configurations, when it’s actually not the cause…

I’m running Windows 10 Pro (17025.1000) and Plex Server version 1.11.0.4633. Also experiencing this issue.

I’m guessing it isn’t as I have tried everything everyone else seems to have.
Bumping this as it deserves a response from Plex. Something is broken.

I did the same thing, I replaced a drive in my array and it came back online as this started happening. I wasted several hours thinking it was me.

The developers have identified an issue with plex.tv and are working on a fix. I will post further updates when I know more.

We have deployed a fix on our plex.tv side to mitigate this issue in the cases where some Plex Media Server’s are not publishing correctly. This does not affect all users, but for those it does, the issue should now be resolved if you restart Plex Media Server.

I now have no remote access whatsoever! Apparently my Plex Server is offline?! I assume that’s because Plex are working on the issue, and it’s just a downtime period we’ll have to work with.

Going from Indirect to offline is hopefully a sign of a fix…

Restarting the server is very difficult from 600 miles away. I’m traveling and this update took my plex access away. I wish there were a way for “Plex Central” to cause my server to restart, perhaps by having it do an update to the software or something (mine is configured for automatic updates – that’s what triggered the problem for me in the first place, I suspect.)

Restarted Plex and issue has been resolved for me.

Your automatic update was not the issue. There was an issue with plex.tv, completely unrelated to any updates you may have installed.

In the case of these types of issues, I recommend having some sort of remote desktop setup so that you can access the filesystem and do a reboot/restart of the application and/or computer.

Hi Chris,

I’ve rebooted my PMS and I’m still getting an Indirect connection remotely. My setup is here https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/300528/remote-access-indirect-please-help#latest.

Any ideas please?

Thabks

Thanks for all the help and getting this resolved right quick!

I am sadly still having issues, anyone else?

Mine didn’t come back right away, so I shut down Plex on my NAS, re-started Plex, logged out, and logged back in, then everything was better. Am guessing you already tried that, but just in case thought it was worth sending at least a brief response. Good luck!!!

I am also running Windows 10. I thought it was due to an internet outage that I had recently, but alas it is Not. I spent about 2 hours on the issue before I started looking at the forums. Glad you guys are out here. Otherwise I would be lost. Funny that I was recently saying to myself that Plex has been stable for quite a while now. I was even thinking about buying a pass for my brother for Christmas, but after this issue I am thinking twice about it. My girlfriend has been giving me grief about using this for a while now, saying I spend more time trying to get this to work than actually enjoying the content I have available. Today, I may start to agree with her. As stated in other posts, Plex should just be more transparent about their changes and potential issues caused by them. With this happening over the holiday season, it is very difficult to not discuss these issues with other family members, which does not help to sell the product to others and get them using it too. The rest of my family is less computer savvy than me, so this issue is something that I a would be getting grief over for quite a while. The Relay workaround is working on my phone, but not on fire tv or my smart Samsung BluRay devices.

I did indeed, but sadly no luck.

I’ve never had consistent access outside of my network, I’m constantly having to “wake up” the server (even though it never sleeps), or I’m told I can only access my server indirectly. I’m sick of this. It doesn’t matter how many times i restart plex, or the server itself, it doesn’t seem to matter how i have the router setup, nor does any firewall seem to be causing the problems. I hate to point at the software itself, but c’mon Plex! I’ve worked out all other variables, there’s nothing left but your software. . . whats going on?? I pay for this service ffs . . .
