Plex remote access working fine for years but now drops out after 10 seconds or so

Server Version#: Version 1.40.0.7775
Player Version#: Version 4.123.2

I have been using Plex for many years successfully. However, a few weeks ago the remote access just starting to drop out. Ever since then this happens continiously. As far as I know I have not changed any of my setting or devices. I run Plex on my Apple iMac 24, via a Linksys Router with 1,000mbps upload speed. Any specific help much appreciated.

Thanks, Peter

I am having same issue. It’s been rock solid, but recently Remote Access drops within 6 seconds of activating it. I’ve tried it with and without designated 32400 port. It’s driving me NUTS! I’ve changed nothing EXCEPT download the latest software update. HELP!!!

There’s tons of stuff that can impact your remote access setup without you doing/seeing any change.
For any actual troubleshooting you’ll need to dig a bit deeper (or share the respective details).

As a side note: the remote access status indicator will always default to :green_circle:… also while it’s still testing the status. So you should consider your remote access isn’t working at all at the moment!

I have the same exact problem on Mac OS X.
I’m running for years perfectly now. All of a sudden something changed and that particular port doesn’t seem to want to get out to the web anymore comes up with an X on it. I looked at the troubleshooting. I cannot understand anything that, I can do to fix this. Are you sure it’s not something else causing this problem with all of us?

„Something else“ like maybe your ISP changing something about their/your setup? Probably…

„Something else“ like a big bug in Plex Media Server? Not impossible but highly unlikely… in that case you would see a different amount of uproar.
It’s true there’s a lot of posts from users with remote access issues. Many of those are based on a bad setup (e.g. weird home network configuration, no port forward…) or weird VPN setup. A number of those might also be based on changes applied by ISPs.

I too am having this problem. I am not behind a VPN or double NAT. I’ve gone through the troubleshooting doc. I’ve tried UDP and forwarding a specific port via TCP. I’m not behind a CGNAT. Everything was working for years and now I cannot get a consistent remote connection that isn’t indirect. At an absolute loss as to why.

What kind of changes might have happened on the ISP side? Is there anywhere in the logs I can look to see the problem?

To what specific outcomes?
Are you e.g. able to see/access the public forwarded port of your router from outside your home network?
If not… have you tried changing the public port to check if your ISP might be blocking that particular port…
