Plex Server Crashes Mac OSX Big Sur 11.0.1

Heres the log that popped up on mine after restart. I suspect its LittleSnitch as well though.

Thank you @Volts ! Your terminal command to disable the DLNA works for me. PMS stop crashing my mac. Don’t need to uninstall Little Snitch for the moment. :slightly_smiling_face:

Yay!

It occurs to me that we should all be reporting and submitting these to Apple. Fundamentally they need to address the issue - every kernel panic is an OS bug, and they changed the network filtering APIs.

Same here. And was difficult to remove Plex Server from start at login, because the computer crashes so fast.

Disabling DLNA worked for me too! Thanks for that tip @Volts !

Hold the shift key when logging into your user account should disable auto-login items.

I had the same issue

panic(cpu 2 caller 0xffffff80020bfb71): assertion failed: (MBUFQ_EMPTY(&cfq->q_mq) && cfq->q_start == cfq->q_end) || (!MBUFQ_EMPTY(&cfq->q_mq) && cfq->q_start != cfq->q_end), file: /AppleInternal/BuildRoot/Library/Caches/com.apple.xbs/Sources/xnu/xnu-7195.50.7/bsd/net/content_filter.c, line: 1089

@TxBigGuy - Did either of those actions work for you? Either uninstalling Little Snitch or disabling the Plex DLNA service?

i have tested little snitch 5.0.2 with the current Plex server version. it only runs when DLNA mode is disabled. The disadvantage is that movies are not streamed in 1080p or higher in the home network. If you enable DLNA mode the iMac crashes again

i also opened a ticket at Objective Development Software GmbH and forwarded the kernel panic error message. As soon as I get an answer from the support team I will contact you

Same for me. When i check DLNA kernel panic. Waiting for updates.

Same issue, Plex is an instant Kernal Panic when I start to stream.

I notified the TripMode.ch folks. They’re aware and investigating too.

That sounds slightly different. Is the panic happening when Plex launches, when DLNA is enabled, or - as you said, when you start to stream?

On reboot, are you offered a crash dump to share? Can you share the text from that here with us?

Disabling DLNA has stopped the crashing, so that is good at least.

Today I received a mail from Support Objective Development (Little Snitch):

We recently learned that activating the DLNA service in Plex can cause a kernel panic. Since we don’t have any code in the kernel in version 5 of Little Snitch (up to version 4 we still have it), we can’t solve this problem directly, but have to forward the corresponding kernel panic reports to Apple, where our contacts there give them priority.

There are 3 possibilities:
a) Uninstall Little Snitch
b) Disable DLNA mode on Plex
c) wait to Install Big Sur

Won’t launch on my machine. No VPN software or LittleSnitch. DLNA disabled.

I disabled DLNA and crashed, so I disabled Little Snitch and crashed, I then removed Little Snitch and all is well again. I have not gotten any messages from Objective Development, I will be looking out for updates.

Your issue looks different. Are you getting an entire mac Kernel Panic? What’s happening to you?

That sounds right. Disabling a filter isn’t enough - the crash isn’t in the filter, it’s in the OS.
