Add me to this. My Plex Server has crashed / stopped responding four times in the past hour and I’ve absolutely no idea why. It’s only streaming music right now, hardly an intensive task but it’s absolutely killing it. The Plex icon often remains in the system tray but the server itself is unresponsive. I have to quit the app and restart it to get things working again.

Driving me crazy!

To those who are having the issue where Plex is “running” in the system tray but there is no connection, make sure and follow the steps outlined above to diagnose a “deadlock”. From what I understand, server logs alone aren’t going to help the Plex team diagnose and fix this. It is really quite easy to do. On my PC I just have a notepad txt file with the Plex Token info and I have the 32 bit task manager running non stop. As soon as I hear that my server is unresponsive, I use Chrome remote desktop to get into my system and run diagnostics. Can easily be done from a phone.

Running windows server 19 - also have these crashes every day, it’s completely random.

U hope we can find the problem and patch it soon

Note:
Ive used the Agent notification on tautulli, to send me a message on discord when it see the plex is down, maybe i need to figure out a way to make it so it runs a bat script, to just start plex server, when it sees its down. - Anyone know about something like that?

I cant run as hyperv, because i have dedicated GPU, and ive read that it doesnt work sadly

This is not some open source community developed software. I’m a paying customer, not going to do QA for them for free.

Updated last night, and worked before bed. Woke up to a crashed system. Reloaded Plex, and nothing would play. Trying to reboot the server now.

Edit: Rebooting the physical server brought it back up. We will see for how long.

@sa2000 The deadlock happened again this morning. I sent you full debug logs along with the dump file and the connections output.

Hello, I have the same problem, I have read the whole thread and in different forums
I just think I should wait for a version to be released, I was @sa2000 can you let me know if a beta version is released that could solve the problem to test it?

Thanks @sa2000
4 years ago you helped me with a similar problem

If you are on windows, and also running tautulli this could help. I’ll just run a tautulli notification agent, choose script and set the Trigger “when server is down”

Make a text file and put in this text:

@echo off
taskkill /f /im “Plex Media Server.exe”
START “” “C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\Plex Media Server.exe”

Not sure if it the same in windows server OS though.

After name it something u whant with the bat extension “restartplex.bat” for eksample, and put it somewhere easy to find  just point to this file in notification agent and ur good to go.

Works for me. But remember to turn the notification agent off if you’re updating the plex media server. Not sure what will happen. I have set the server to not update automatically anyways.

Also I’m not sure if its killing all the plex processes but I don’t care the server starts again and starts working almost immediately.

Note It will also start plex up again if u manually close it.

It’s a work-around but not ideal. Better than having to do it manually all the time

Thanks for this workaround, while not ideal it is a enormous help.

My discord notification for a server going down doesn’t trigger when the auto update happens, i’m assuming if that’s the case then this script would be safe to run even with auto updates turned on?

Same issue as others are reporting.
A rock solid Plex server running on Windows Server 2012R2 for many years is crashing at lest once a day since updating to Plex Ver. 1.27
Tray icon is still showing but Plex app on Roku can’t connect and browser connections never load.
After manually closing the Plex program from the tray icon I can relaunch and everything is fine until it’s not, usually some time the next day.

Same issue here. Windows system that’s been rock solid. Two external drives connected for media and never had an issue. Plex is running and task manager shows normal CPU and memory but Plex apps can’t connect and launching from the pc, it never loads.

I was having multiple crashes every single day on the latest PMS version. I upgraded to the recently released 64 bit version and have not had a single crash for 3 straight days now. Hope I am not jinxing myself, but thought I would pass this along. If anyone wants to try the 64 bit version there is a thread under the server windows forum.

I just installed the 64 bit version as well per your recommendation. I’ll report back if I see any more crashes.

Where did you find a 64 bit version of the server? All I am seeing is 32 bit.

Where i can get 64 bit version?
thnks
