Plex Server Disappeared after logging out

Server Version#: 1.25.0
Player Version#: 4.66.1
QNAP: TS-451+ Version 5.0.0.1858 (running Plex as an app on NAS)

I use Tautulli to monitor Plex. I believe on the 18th they stopped communicating. No issue on the Plex side, everything was working fine. I figured that I would get Tautulli back up and running again. One of the recommendations online was to simply log out of Plex and log back in. Seems simple enough.

After doing that, my server no longer comes up. I can see/access other servers I’m a member of. But mine is not visible (in the web UI, I can see it on my iPhone even after logging out and back in. Nor do I see an option to even add another server.

These are all the settings I have. There isn’t any options to ā€œdo anythingā€ just basic default settings

When I start troubleshooting this new issue, most suggestions are to make sure everything is up to date. So I updated Plex, same issue. I can’t see my Plex server in UI (tried multiple browsers and incognito) still nothing, but on the iPhone App, I can see my server and that it is offline.

I can only assume/hope this is a networking issue. I’m not aware of anything that would have changed, I didn’t change anything. As I read more, other pointed out to make sure that I’ve got a static IP assigned for my NAS (Host) and Port Forwarding set for external (and internal) port 32400.

Countless reboots on NAS, services, and the entire home network. At this point I’m at a loss, I would appreciate any help someone could offer. Thank you.

I’m having the same issue, Plex will not locate my Synology NAS device - can’t see any movies at all.

I am having a similar problem, running Plex Version 1.25.0.5246/4.66.1 on Qnap TS-251 (most recent firmware.) Lifetime Plex Pass Sub.

  1. my NAS from shutdown, Plex works, I can connect through browser, WinApp and iOS App.
  2. Sometime (not often a very long time) later, I cannot connect to Plex. It appears to still be running in QNAP. I can access the files on QNAP through SMB, so I know the files are available to be served.
  3. If I restart, Plex doesn’t come back up.
  4. If I shut down my QNAP and restart … then Plex will work for a while again. Second verse same as the first.

To watch my files I have been resorting to using other iOS video player apps to directly access the SMB share.

@sped9

Part of the problem I see is that you have multiple servers on your account,

SPED-NAS SpedFlix SPEDFLIX SPEDFLIX

If you’ve signed your QNAP server out then it must first be determined which is to be valid.

After that, the account cleaned up → Settings - Authorized Devices - Server (dropdown) REMOVE the dead ones.

If you need assistance, I will help.

After that,

  1. If your LAN is RFC-1918 compliant

  2. And you sign out of Plex/web in the browser (Ignore the mobile app for now)

  3. Then open an incognito window to http://ip.addr.of.qnap:32400/web

  4. You will be able to sign in and claim it again (it will offer itself to be claimed)

@geissler

I looked at your account as well.

You might have a confusion over certificate at this point. I reset it to be certain.

  • Restart the server

Now open by LAN IP having also signed out of Plex/web first (as above)

@natelw

Also use the LAN IP.

Do not use QuickConnect or the link in package center.

Follow the same procedure as ablve.

Same issue here - can no longer access Plex server on QNAP from any device. Have to restart Qnap and even then Plex is only up for a few minutes. What is the remedy for this? Interestingly it seems to have started following the latest QNAP firmware release.

Hi @ChuckPa, thank you for that information. I could use your assistance please.

I don’t know how to remove the multiple/extra servers from my account. I don’t see them on my end.

There isn’t any way you ā€˜sign out’ of the QNAP. The options are very limited.

Any help would be appreciated. I can’t seem to get past this first step.

Sign out of the Plex/web app, not App Center

Also as stated in my post:

Understood. Performing steps now. Will reply shortly. Thank you.

Hello @ChuckPa, I signed out of the Plex/web app. Once signed out you no longer have the option to access Auth Devices. Therefore, I logged back in using an incognito window and cleared out the items there listed under ā€˜ALL’. However, I did not have servers as a dropdown option as shown below.

OOPS ( I need more :coffee: )

  1. Claim the QNAP again ( http://ip.addr.of.qnap:32400/web )

  2. I went to your account and removed the duplicates / dead servers for you.

FYI: It’s never a good idea to sign the the server out of your account.

Hi @ChuckPa, the issue still remains. I know that when you first install Plex that there is a set up process that allows you to claim the server. That isn’t occurring after logging in directly to the NAS, http://ip.addr.of.qnap:32400/web. The UI comes up. I can see the other two servers I’m a member of, but I don’t see my server, I’m not being prompted to claim a server, and I don’t see where in the UI to perform the process manually. :frowning: (thanks for your help thus far)

This didn’t work ?

Hi @ChuckPa, it did not. Although I wasn’t able to successfully follow the directions to the letter. The directory (PlexData) already exists. I was able to rename the directory from the console to PlexData_old. Then I created the dir PlexData and set the proper user/group and permissions (to match the old dir.

I restarted Plex and waited 30+ seconds.

Now when I go to edit the file, I’m getting this. I restarted the NAS hoping that would correct it. Sadly it did not.

Can I edit Preferences.xml from the console?

I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong here. The directory PlexData was already a shared dir, and creating a new one isn’t allowed. Wanting to correct this issue, from the QNAP UI, I renamed the dir to PlexDataOLD. I removed the share for that folder. I created a new shared folder called PlexData. Before I could restart Plex, that dir I just created populated with data. It seems to be populating with the old data (I have a back up file in there that I created and it shows up in the new dir). I restart Plex anyway, wait 30+ seconds and I get the same timeout error when trying to edit that xml file.

Current Status. I shutdown plex. I backed up the PlexData on a different drive on the NAS. I removed the PlexData dir and rebooted the NAS. I’ll create the shared drive and start the directions again…

If I’m doing something wrong please let me know. Thank you

@sped9

There was no need to rename the shared folder. It is a placeholder only.

Don’t overthink this.

You can edit the Preferences.xml file from the console just as well (presume you’re comfortabe).

I give the gui text editor instructions because most QNAP users are also Windows users.

Ok, I tried that. I had removed all the values outlined from the command line, restarted Plex, but it just let me in to the UI (same as before, I can only see the two servers I’m a member of :frowning: and didn’t give the options to claim a server.

  1. Restart the server
  2. Let it run 30 seconds then stop.
  3. ZIP / tar.gz of the ā€œLogsā€ directory for me please.

I need to see where you’re at.

ok doing that now. Do I just post the logs here?
