Plex Server Dropping Player Connections (1.41.0.8911)

Ah, thank you!

I can see a pattern there but not related to playback at all. I can see where the problem is happening and can see the same thing happening on a Shield I have running here.

Will have this looked at and sorted out before the public release.

That great news thanks for following up on this mate!

Great I was looking to try and restore from backup will the fix also address the disappearing option to start the Plex Media Server?

I’ve now moved back to Plex Media Server Version 1.40.5.8921 release version non-beta and able to re-use my existing com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb directory which I had moved to an external SSD

Hey there, I’m running 1.41.0.8992 since yesterday through the beta channel, which became a public release today.
Unfortunately this problem still occurs and is very annoying, especially external users can’t quickly fix it.
I can “fix” it by switching to a library, getting told that the server is offline and after hitting retry twice, the server is up again.

I’ve started monitoring it through Tautulli and the problem occurs multiple times a day.

As I still can’t upload anything on the forums, here’s a screenshot on imgur instead: Imgur: The magic of the Internet

Is there an ETA when it’s fixed?

Yes, the Shield release hasn’t yet been made public while this is being investigated.

I’m currently running a test build with a potential fix, unfortunately the issue is sporadic and I’m also only seeing it on one of the two Shield devices I have here and I’m still not entirely sure what the actual cause is.

If I sent you an APK of this same test build would you be able to install it on your side and let me know if you see any change? I’m seeing the same behaviour you are but it only happens quite rarely on my one Shield and I haven’t found a way to reliably reproduce it on demand.

Thanks for the update!
I’d gladly help testing your build.

Thanks! I’m sending you a DM now.

Hi, I am having the same problem. If you want, I can test your build

We’ve released a new beta version 1.41.0.9018 to the Google Play store which appears to resolve the issue.

Please check for that update. This will be going to the public channel this week.

The new PMS release seems to fix the bug. Thanks!

Thanks for fixing this! It was driving me crazy and I couldn’t figure out what was wrong. I don’t know much about these things, but is it possible for Plex to do some sort of error reporting when the server unexpectedly quits to surface these bugs earlier?

This release fixes the server dropping out but hasn’t fixed the issue of live tv not being able to tune a channel after about 3 days. A reboot of the shield is the only way to fix it.

Unfortunately, the problem seems to have returned.
Those are all crashes from today.
I had this issue already earlier which lasted around a day and then disappeared for a while.

Logs.zip (159.4 KB)

Edit: Now at 16:56 it crashed again >.<

I’m running PMS ver. 1.41.2.9134 and the problem of the server dropping during playback still occurs. When the connection drops, navigating to a library and hitting retry will usually re-establish the connection.

I am also experiencing this problem again. The Plex Media Server options in the settings have completely disappeared again. Restarting the Shield doesn’t help.

Same issue and it appears as though this topic is now closed.

It doesn’t … My server kept disconnecting after updating to this version, and now completely dead and not running any more no matter what I do

It started again, started yesterday at 13:30 and keeps crashing at least once per hour.
It was quite stable since the 30th October.

Logs are again completely useless. Also no crashes reported even though the setting is enabled.

My PLEX server on NVIDIA Shield 2919 is now no longer accessible every few days.
The evening before, everything is still working, I watch a film, do absolutely nothing on the server and go to bed, then the next morning the server is no longer accessible.

I then have no other option than to reset everything, which is extremely time-consuming, and set up the server again.
Then it works for a few days and the same thing happens again.

Apparently, some users have the same problem and the Plex developers have not come up with a solution.
Not even a confirmation or even a comment that there is a problem or that it is not understandable…
You then have to look for possible solutions from other users yourself, which usually don’t work in the end. Reset PIN, somehow “organize” old app versions, some ADB commands, etc.
I’m a simple user, have no idea what I’m doing with it and just want to do what Plex could only do years ago, play films on the network.

Plex can now do 1000 things that nobody needs. But instead of the core function of Plex at least continuing to work as it used to, more and more functions are being added that are even less needed.

Please finally solve the core problems instead of always adding new useless functions

4 days of constant crashes, this is really getting annoying.
In the past, it stopped after a day.

Chronological order of how often this happens.

What I noticed though: Last log entries are always (I think?) related to ViewStateSync.
