Plex Skipping forward by a few seconds on Web Player

if you force transcoded video, it seems to go away. Just pick a bitrate lower than the origional file.

I’m surprised this issue hasn’t been solved. I started experiencing skipping too. Switched to the “Plex Media Player” and it went away. Might go back to chrome and change the quality. Does anyone have a bug ticket made for this we can follow?

Adding my complaint. Thought this would have been fixed a year ago, but now that I am WFH, might as well assist.

PMS: 1.18.8.2527, gigabit ethernet, 1080p direct play to chrome.

Not sure what logs to attach, there are a lot of them in the zip file.

I’m having the same issue on latest Plex on chrome

Also having this issue, seems to come and go between server versions, but might also just be that I use direct stream seldomly.

Same issue here. Been happening for quite sometime. It wouldn’t do it every time but now it is and it is maddening. It started shortly after the announcement that PLEX plans on getting rid of web login as a media-player option. Is this Plex’s way of forcing us HTPC’ers out of using the HTPC as our Streaming Player Client? I have tried 2 different PLEX-App web players on my PC and they both are missing things I am used to using like one didn’t see the space-bar as a pause button and that’s a dealbreaker for me. If you are going to force us to use a media player, make it so it’s like the HTPC version at least. Is there a fix to this skipping?

PS> Also, if you want us to use “Plex App” on our Win HTPC’s, not only do they need to act similar in Functions and Features BUT the App also needs to be able to have the volume BOOSTED because everytime I use the APP, it is too LOW with everything at its MAX, PC Vol. & Plex APP Vol. I have been trying the App AGAIN becuase of this SKIPPING and it doesn’t Skip But it’s way TOO LOW! KODI has a built-in Volume Booster, Can’t Plex do something Similiar???

I’d like to add to this thread that this is also happening to me on Windows 10 Chrome. I thought it was a bad video file, but it’s happening on everything I watch now. Seemed to happen after the last update. I just updated to 1.18.9.2571 and it’s still happening.

Same issue here.
Anything abov 30mbit skips video all the time in the web player but is fine on other players. (android, android tv, plex for windows)
Funny thing is if i get the server to transcode the files (auto quality) then it works just fine at 30mbit+

My Setup:
Server: Synology DS918+ Plex Version 1.18.9.2571
Client: chrome web player on win10 (9900K@5.2 ghz)
Connected with gigabit lan.

I’ve been having this same issue, but only on specific files.

Firefox and Chrome on WIn10

It works fine in the “Plex for Windows” App

Upgraded to : 1.18.9.2571 - same issue. Skips and skips when playing oroginal quality.

I will add a “me too” to this topic as well. I just extracted my first bluray disk today with makemkv. On the web player, the video skips forward often. This occurs on original quality. This is not a buffer issue, as I on on my local network, and the buffer bar is far ahead of my current position. I am using Google Chrome on Linux. The Kodi app for Linux (the same computer) works just fine, as does the android app. My plex server version is the current latest ( 1.18.9.2571 ).

Yeah. The problem remains on 1.18.9.2578 too.

Adding another one here. Same happens on my current setup. Using web player locally inside my home.

Plex Server Version 1.18.9.2571

Direct Play at 75Mbps

Same error again. Web: Version 4.22.3, Server: 1.18.9.2578

Still happening on Chrome in W10, and Opera too. Newest version of MS Edge will occasionally pause for a brief moment like it’s buffering, but it does not skip.

same here. Skipping randomly in parts of video. Very annoying

Shocked to see this issue has been reported since last year with no resolution.

Same error again: Web: Version 4.22.3, Server: 1.19.1.2630. And ran web version 4.31.1 via plex.tv (why would an upgraded web version be included in the server upgrade anyways), still broken.

Same error again: Web: Version 4.22.3, Server: 1.19.1.2645

Same issue here – skipping with large bitrate bluray movies when playing in the Chrome web player when playing locally (at home). No issues using Firefox. Unselecting Automatic Quality (beta) did NOT work. Only solution to get it to work in Chrome is to select a lower quality video playback. For example, for my bluray rip of Star Wars New Hope (a ~38 Mbps MKV video file) I had to select 12Mbps to get it to work in Chrome.

System details –
Plex Web Version 4.22.3
Plex Server Version 1.19.1.2645 (Dual Xeon 12 core / 24 thread Server)

How has Plex not addressed this issue after all this time!? This is absurd.
