PLEX stops on synology NAS several times a day

Morning

  • Approx 2 weeks ago bought and set up a Synology 920+ NAS
  • It was set up with DSM 6.0 and migrated to 7.0 during the Synology wizard’s setup process.
  • NAS is now running version DSM 7.0.1-42218
  • Installed Plex media server on NAS, via the Package Centre, to create a fresh new media server.
  • This was installed after DMS was updated to 7.0
  • Had a current PMS on PC that was uninstalled first. Did not migrate existing PMS
  • On its first run Plex suggested an update, which was installed manually and another update has been done today, with a second ie different update file.
  • Plex is now running Version 1.25.2.5319
  • Plex stops running on the NAS at least once a day and has to be manually run.
  • Can stop several times a day, never the same time of day, sometimes while content is playing, often during or shortly after content is added to the library, but not always.
  • Have reviewed all the suggestions on this thread, have followed Chuck’s suggestion (FAQ 16) and added a one-time user-defined script task to the NAS to increase the folders being monitored.

Have attached log files , verbose is turned off, and I am on the public channel for updates not beta. Logs were downloaded after user-defined script was applied.

Are there any other fixes or suggestions I can try to get the PMS to be more stable and stay “up”? as restarting the PMS several times a day, especially mid-movie or when away from the house is becoming increasingly frustrating.

One of your libraries is pointed at the root level of volume 1.

This can cause stability problems for PMS, as it is scanning all of /volume1, not just your media files.

Edit each library and look at the folders you added. When you find the one with /volume1, remove that folder from the library. If it is the only folder in the library, then delete the entire library.

After you remove the entry, rescan your libraries, empty trash, and clean bundles. This will remove any incorrect entries from the Plex database. See the Plex Dance support article. You’re not “dancing” any media, but the article shows how to perform the steps.

Thanks for the response. It was my music folder, which had the /volume1 folder.

Removed the music library, then readded it correctly. Scanned and removed trash - from all libraries, let’s see if it makes plex more stable.

I will update thread in a couple of days, with an outcome. Cheers

PLEX has run consistently for 24 hours, without crashing. A first since the new NAS went in.
