Plex tidal integration

Not seeing/hearing these on the web player after updating to the latest PMS (beta channel). Is this a staggered rollout?

New Releases For You should include all singles/albums from artists in your library.
For instance, today is Friday, New Music Friday and the New Releases For You carousel is the same as it was yesterday and does not include any new singles/albums from artists I have in Library.

If you guys nail the New Releases for You section, this alone could be worth the additional price for Tidal integration as no service since the demise of Rdio has gotten this right yet, with surfacing any and ALL relevant new releases to the user.

Thanks

While I have been a Tidal subscriber for over 6 months I don’t use the Tidal app, I’ve added all the albums in my library using Roon so I’m not familiar with how things work in the Tidal app. My bad :sunglasses:

Regarding your answer to my first question
given the limitations of having the content in two locations is there a way I can add artists to my local library without actually having any local albums for them? I think this would be preferable to adding artists to Tidal since when drilling down in my local library it shows both my local albums and albums available on Tidal.

New question
when I linked Tidal to my Plex account and navigated to the My Tidal album view the album count at the top was 393. I have since added 2 albums using Plex to test to see if they showed up in my Roon library which they did. My Tidal library should now have 395 albums. I just navigated to the album page and the count is now 366. Why would the count go down? I check in Roon and it’s album count which includes both my local and Tidal albums has not gone down by 29.

Those features are only available on iOS and Android mobile at the moment, as stated in our blog announcement https://www.plex.tv/blog/turning-plex-music-up-to-eleventy/

When creating a Plex Mix with a user’s library and Tidal library as part of the Plex and Tidal subscription, does Plex get songs from just the user’s library or will it also pull songs from Tidal to create a better Plex Mix?

Also, are songs from Tidal tagged with Mood IDs to create better mood-based playlists or just songs in a user’s personal library?

@randhawk @drzoidberg33 what’s the word on casting Tidal? Currently discovery radio, artist radio, etc is frustrating when I’m casting, cause I have to disconnect to listen to Tidal items.

Plex Mix will only include tracks from your own library. The new Artist Radio is what will include tracks from all sources.

Interesting because I thought Plex Mix and Artist Radio work essentially in the same way using Gracenote metadata. Is there any way for the development team to work on expanding this to Plex Mix; essentially making Plex Mix created by using all sources?

I am not sure why Plex has gone with Tidal if these reviews anything to go by see here

1 day later, I still do not have any working tidal audio.

ios player loads the tidal playlist then sits and spins

plex web loads the tidal playlist and says “Error code: h4 (Codec)”

edit: while I now have a tidal account and it is linked to plex, I did not have anything under the plex subscriptions, and I could not play anything on tidals website either.

So again I attempted to subscribe through plex for the tidal premium/trial, and continue to get the ‘you are not eligible’ error.

I will activate trial directly through tidal to see if it works then.

I wasn’t planning on continuing past the trial anyway, but the difficulties and failings thus far are just not a great sign for the future.

Audio quality. Since Plex is piping Tidal’s catalog, most of those negative reviews about issues with Tidal clients, will not be applicable here.

Honestly I am confused why so many people don’t understand, Tidal is the biggest FLAC streamer currently, and definitely could use the partnership.

I think you are missing a very fundamental point about the reviews.
They spotlight how Tidal treat their own customers and the disdain they have for them.
Is this really a good fit for Plex as a company? Or are we just talking a cash cow model and screw the customers?

Nobody is forcing anyone to use Tidal. It’s completely optional. I advise against any music streaming services because I hate how they remove tracks from their library overnight.

Local all the way. I’m just happy plex is paying attention to the music support aspect. Sweet fades and gapless playback mean a whole lot more to me than Tidal integration

Definetly a possibility to share that tidal account with home members
Also tidal works for me only when I open it from plex.tv (on my domain address its not available) or on my phone, rest like xbox or my tv is not showing it!

Looks like Android Auto itself got an update this morning that let’s you narrow down by alphabet. Yet to go on the road with it to test out the Plex and Tidal integration. Will voice search from within Android Auto play results from Tidal if the main music source selected is the Plex server? I know currently if the Tidal source is selected, no results are displayed from recently played and recently added.

Thanks for the reply. I admit I missed the part where they were iOS and Android only for now. Fingers crossed the web player’s next in line!

Voice search in Android auto for plex is completely busted right now. If you do a voice search for anything, you’ll get a podcast, no matter how specific you are.

Also the options button disappears when playing anything so you can’t even tell it to shuffle. Idk if that’s plexs fault or android autos fault though

This is actually intentional. Most users do not want outside content mixed with their personal content. So we took a middle route and augmented things you have, without adding things you may not want.

That’s our fault. I thought it was fixed. If not, should be soon.

I get it, and it’s definitely the right way to do it out of the gate. But from those Tidal albums, I should be able to then select the ones I like and click “Add to my library” or something, so that the Tidal content of my choosing is actually augmenting my personal library.
