Plex TV v2 Beta for Samsung 2016+ UHD Devices

Update 09/24/2018

A new version of the beta has been posted. You can download the updated beta here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gI2iPTsglZTMZod4wRlG77DDQPI867k3/view?usp=sharing

To Install, follow the same instructions below for installing the beta. The TV will automatically update the existing install if you already have the beta installed.

This update updates the application from 3.66.0 to 3.70.0, and aligns with the 3.70.3 LG release. The changelogs can be found here: Plex for Smart TVs & TiVo

In addition, this release fixes a couple Samsung-specific bugs:

  • Fixes an issue with Live TV sometimes buffering but never starting playback.
  • Fixes an issue with some anamorphic videos not playing at the correct resolution.

As before, please report bugs in this thread with the necessary logs, video clips, and details of your setup.

Original Post:

Hello everyone!

We’re happy to announce a beta release of the v2 TV app for Samsung devices. The beta version
updates the app’s UI and features to be up to date with our LG and PMP TV applications.

This release is for UHD Samsung devices running on Tizen 2.4 or higher (2016+).

How to Install the Beta

The build is not available on the Samsung App store, so it will need to be sideloaded onto your TV directly.

You will need:

Instructions:

  1. Download the .zip release above
  2. On your USB stick, create a folder called userwidget
  3. Unzip the contents of the .zip file into the userwidget folder you just created
  4. Turn on the TV
  5. Plug in the USB drive into your Samsung UHD device. Installation should start automatically.
  6. Run the App from your Smart Hub, or from the App store.

A few users might experience issues installing or running the beta with the v1 app installed. If that’s the case, please uninstall the v1 app via the App Store and then re-plug in the USB to install the v2 Beta.

Known Issues

There are a few known issues we are working on resolving:

  1. Some videos sometimes finish playback ~10 seconds early or gives a playback error
  2. Some news clips fail to play
  3. ā€œWatch Laterā€ videos sometimes gives a ā€œMultimedia file format not supportedā€ error.

Reporting bugs

If you encounter any bugs, please create a reply in this thread with:

  • PMS Version:
  • Device Model:
  • Tizen Version:
  • App Version:
  • PMS Log
    • Turn on ā€œLog to Media Serverā€ under Settings -> Privacy so we can see the Samsung logs as well

Thanks!

So I won’t be able to watch live TV on my UN55JU7100? Purchased it in 2015…

can confirm this too

Is there an overview anywhere of what new features this provides?

For me all movies are transcoded, with or without subtitles with this version.
Reverted back to stable version again as it at least can play the video when subtitles is not selected.

I also noticed that Dolby TrueHD checkbox in settings has been removed in this version.

How do you revert to the stock version?

The audio sync problems with AAC_LATM audio codec make this beta unusable for me.

Here i opened the ā€œApp storeā€ app. Marked the plex app in the installed app list and longpressed on the ā€œselectā€ button on the remote and in the menu that pop up selected reinstall application.

Hi guys !

I have a samsung tv and latest version of plex server running on windows. I am running on Plex Samsung app 3.3.4 and when i try to play 4K movies it’s works well but if i enable subtitles the movie doesn’t work anymore. It always stop and play again for few seconds…

Does it works with this beta ? I tried this beta, it is not very smooth and user interface is not beautiful. I comeback to previous stable version 3.3.4.

Waiting an official fix.

Hope that devs will fix subtibles issues in the next update on Samsung App …

Have a good day

Hi, the beta version does not run side-by-side, does it? even if I see both apps installed, if I open v1, it opens v2.

Yes, it does not!

It mostly solved the Subtitles issues for me

Does this version support DVR player?

Why the HECK did you guys decide to add a ā€œXā€ close button and smack it in-between the play and fast forward buttons?! This button infuriates me.

Agree to this, It’s unnatural!
@sLumpy are you following this?

This has been in the v2 app for a long time now for other platforms and isn’t a Samsung platform issue. We have no plans to change this but if it’s a big issue, I suggest creating a separate topic for discussion.
