Plex windows on surface pro 4

Server Version#: Qnap tvs 471
Player Version#: Plex for windows

Hi,

I have two issues with the windows plex app on my surface 4 pro.

  1. browsing the library is really sluggish and when opening media takes quite long to load. Thumbnails load pretty slow as well. I have to admit, the processor in the surface is the weakest of all the models (intel m3) and only 4 gb ram. But i feel that should be sufficient for smooth experience on a plex player no?. The netflix app in comparison is smooth as butter when browsing and media loads pretty fast. Anyone has any suggestions how I can improve this?

  2. the video playback itself is just the slightest bit choppy or stuttering. Like its playing at a bit low fps or hz. I am not talking about any loading or buffering delay. The streaming is fine its just the image to render a bit slow. Its only noticeable at slow moving scenes. Again to compare with netflix, this does not seem to be an issue there. Neither is it with youtube movies so I think it is down to the plex app. Obviously I tried several movies and tv shows to make sure it was not in one movie. Also when i check windows taskmanager during playback the processor and ram or at about 70% only. So i dont think the tablet is too slow

I really dislike the new all in one Plex app for windows. I prefererred it when the player and server were seperate. So I am definitly open for a simple and smooth third party windows player app should that exist

Thanks for any input!

You might want to check out the “old” Plex Media Player.

As for

They actually still are… the new Plex desktop player however also contains the server administration components of the regular Plex Web (while having a more powerful “under the hood” playback support when it comes to codecs etc.)

Yes i know. But i meant the addition of the plex server admin and removal of the microsoft store app is a shame. It just unnecessary complicated for a player and honestly not pretty or intuitive like say the ios app. It looks like browsing the webpage.

also getting terrible performance on Surface Pro 4 with Player for Windows 10. Version 1.9.0.1203-00f2b4d9

there is enough system resources available that this should run fine. something is up and not sure where. other windows 10 machines i use with the player have no problem as that is the preferred way to play, everything can direct play etc.
