Plexamp Carplay Display Issues (Possible IOS 14.2+ issue)

Hi all

I have been using Plexamp with carplay for some months now without issue on my iphone 8 on IOS 14.1. Ive recently switched to a iphone 12 which up until IOS 14.2 update was also working well.

Since changing to 14.2 and then 14.21, the only available display on carplay is just a shuffle option, and a button at the top of screen to see downloaded files, and the now playing button, nothing else (see pic: https://i.imgur.com/kTUcru3.jpg

I have kept the iphone8 on 14.1 and it still works fine, all display available.

Thought I would let you know, can’t find any posts on this issue here or elsewhere.

EDIT: should have said I have reinstalled the app, reconnected to carplay, restarted phone etc multiple times. Also have all permissions on in IOS, same as the iphone 8.

hmm, still seeing the issue? can’t be that widespread as this is the first report i’ve heard.

Oops, forgot to reply to this. I see the same behaviour, just assumed it was because I’m still rocking a 6S plus.

I have exactly the same issue since a few months. Also on the latest iOS version on an iPhone 11 Pro. It only shows the Downloads tab. I did see the complete interface pop-up for fraction of a second and then it refreshes to only showing the Dowloads tab. It’s also pretty unstable, not wanting to play the music or showing just an empty screen. I can still select and play music using the phone itself (with Plexamp). Until a couple of months ago it worked flawless and one of the reasons I got PlexPass. I would appreciate it if this issue could be investigated.

Yep still get This issue. I’ve had to move on to prism for CarPlay plex, it’s pretty good but would be nice if this can be fixed

that generally implies a connection issue back to your server.

I think I’ve figured out this issue, when I have NextDNS running on my phone it displays the above issue. All good when I turn it off.

NextDNS must be blocking some part of the connection thinkings it’s adware or insecure. I’ll keep digging

Tested a few times, off is fine, on only shows downloads.

I wonder if anyone else having issues also uses nextdns or a similar adblocking mechanism? I dont really want to turn it off just for plexamp, I wonder why it stops my library from appearing only in carplay? normal operation is fine.

interesting. i think the root cause here is the NextDNS is doing something to make Plexamp think it has no network. All of this is done under the hood with iOS level-level networking primitives, i can’t see it using any of those above domains :thinking:

i was DMing with someone else with a similar problem.

Its just an iphone 12 running current ios update, nextdns vanilla, plugged in via USB to the car. does not happen outside of carplay, and only happens in carplay when nextdns is on.

can you do me a favor and attach your plexamp logs when you’re on cellular and only seeing the downloads tab?
