Plexamp DNS Problems

server Version#:4.108.0
Player Version#:plexamp 4.8.4
<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>

Hello, i don’t know the exact date, but in the middle of summer, July maybe, plex app and plexamp app was not accessible outside of my network, after about a week, some plex server updates, and local network restarts, the plex app started working, but plexamp, never worked again, first i thought that there’s an issue with my local network/firewall, and since I didn’t have the time to troubleshoot I left it like this, but now, after several hardware updates on my network/server/firewall, I’ve noticed that plexamp is not accessible only on my mobile data, internet service provider, if I start any VPN app on my phone/tablet, plexamp is accessible outside of my network, after noticing that, I asked the support of my cellular service provider, who replied very quickly with the issue

From my limited knowledge about this, and the answer from my Mobile ISP, there seems to be an issue with the plex DNS, is there something I can do to make plexamp work again outside of my network?

Post Plexamp logs so we know why it’s failing.

Hello, I don’t know how to extract the logs for plexamp only, or fiind the plexamp logs, but I don’t know if this helps, the app on my phone or tablet, doesn’t load any data from the library when connected to my mobile data, but as soon as I connect to any WiFi network or other mobile data provider, the app is populating with my library.

plex had a problem with DNS recently. there have been multiple posts on it. including this one. DNS Resolution for plex.tv gone flakey - #2 by OttoKerner

supposedly fixed already but people keep posting more dns issues. possible your provider still has plex shut down for some reason .

Hello #djfriday13,

This is the reply from my provider:

“ it is DNS problem, but not of our servers, it is actually of the authoritative servers in the plex.direct area, as can be seen in the following link:

a:92-87-115-26.5dead062613f4dd182c5d5e53e82d4f3.plex.direct.

Warning: Received Non-Authoritative (lame) Answer from: ‘ns1-plexdirect.plex.bz’

The problem is that the authoritative server for the plex.direct server does not set the AA bit (authoritative answer) and therefore, our servers reject the answer. We cannot set our servers to accept responses from unknown sources.

ya look at the post from otto i shared. that was supposed to be fixed. perhaps it is not fully fixed.

google’s dns lookup is working for that address with no errors.

Click the link for Plexamp logs.

After i found out that the problem is only in my provider network, this is the first thing i tried, to change the dns, but this is a no go on iPhone, or at least, i didn’t find an option to change this.

You shouldn’t need to change it; the point is that the issue has been fixed on our end, as far as we know.

Hello, I knew this is possible for WiFi networks, but I was trying to that for mobile data, and for that I didn’t found any option available.

I’ll do that tomorrow morning and come back with the logs, thank you for the link

Attached are the plexamp logs.

I don’t see an issue for your server:

Hello,

That’s mainly because I use a vpn when trying to connect outside my network, but to be clear, can you confirm that the dns issue is fixed, should I return to my isp with other requests, or network check?

I don’t know where to head from here!

From what I’ve heard the DNS issue is resolved on our side.

Hi guys, I can confirm that I face the same issue.

139-162-175-123.fa4e0d5d5c694d64aa9dad830fb3d4a2.plex.direct

Plex Server Version: 1.32.7.7621 (MacOS)
Plexamp Version: 4.8.4 (IOS)

What issue? What errors are you seeing in the log?

The Plexanp operates exclusively when is connected to the local network, and it does not function when switched to mobile data. I think there is a DNS issue. (something related with HTTP status -6)
