PlexConnect plays music not vids!

I recently rebuilt my HP Proliant Microserver, running Ubuntu, with Raid 5, reinstalled Plex etc and all work fine.

When I try to use PlexConnect it loads as normal and shows me the menu options, but when I go into Movies, and select to play, i get 'An error occurred loading this content'.  I get the same error with TV, in fact with all video files.

What does work however, is my music. This plays fine.  It's stored in the same top folder as the video, i.e. MEDIA/Music or MEDIA/Movies etc etc

Anyone any ideas?

I have tried having Plex Connect run on both a Mac mini and the server directly, but no change...

Help!

thanks

PMS - require authorization? And not signed into MyPlex?

Transcode options set to "Direct Play"? But trying to play incompatible stuff?

I guess we need more data... logs and such.

Thanks for the reply. I'm signed into MyPlex etc but still no joy.  To clarify, when I start trailers on the ATV3 then menus come up, but when I go into the TV section, nothing shows, no Deck, nothing. All I get is the spinning logo like it's searching...but looking on Ubuntu terminal it's scrolling up and doing/getting something.

Where do I get the log file to post?

Thanks

See the read before posting sticky

Sorry f00b4r, not understanding? What read?

If i'm posting in the wrong area please tell me. thanks

He is asking you to read the “Read Before Posting” thread stickied at the top of this forum. It lays out the information needed to help with troubleshooting.

Ah right, yeah, sorry of course.

I've read that. Also have reinstalled PlexConnect on a different Mac. Reset the ATV to factory defaults and essentially re-installed everything from scratch. Still getting the same problem. When running there doesn't appear to be any errors in Terminal.

I don't see anything in the Readme that explains what might be wrong, although, not a programmer by any means.

Back to Airplay I guess.

cheers

Well... a Log *might* help...

I know, but please, assume I'm an idiot and don't know where that is... :-)  You wouldn't be far from the truth :-)

I don't see anything in the PlexConnect folder that could be a log.

Do you want a copy of the terminal reporting that goes on?

The log is more detailed - it's called PlexConnect.log, created new with every startup.

Ah, this log. doh!

Thanks for any help

Version PMS?

Version aTV iOS?

Hi. PMS is 0.9.7.3 and the iOS on the ATV3 is 6.0

thanks

Barry

Honestly, in your log I can not find any place where it actually seems that you started a video...

Could you please do that... then re-post the log?

Hi, that's the problem. No videos start.

When i enter the TV section there are no folders shown and it says Accessing Trailer forever.

In the Movies folder, it does show movies, but none play, with an error message.

I've run a new log after trying to play a movie. Also have 3 pics, the TV screen where it's just searching, a movie info screen and the error I get when trying to play the movie. Problem is they are all over 2mb, how do I get them to you?

cheers

Barry

dropbox?

Nothing really wrong as far as I can see...

Two things you should try:

- Is the video play-able in your browser (Plex/Web)? Is the file stored on an local hard drive?

- What happens when you force a full trancode: aTV->PlexConnect(Trailers)->Settings->Transcoder Action->Transcode?

One other thing... is your PMS set to "require authorization" for access from local network?

Yes, all videos are playable in PlexWeb, and also using Plex Media Player on various machines.

Forcing a full transcode makes no difference, same error message.

PMS wasn't ticked for require authorisation. When I did tick it the menus disappeared.
