PMS not scanning TV shows

It might be a file permission problem.

You’ll need to login to the Synology and make sure the user Plex has read/write permissions to /volume1/benthien2007/ (or the correct name for the shared folder holding your media).

Edit: If your movies are also on /volume1/benthien2007/, then plex has access.

We still need to check for the TV folder.

  1. Login in to the Synology.

  2. Using File Station, navigate to /volume1/benthien2007/Tv.

  3. Right click on Tv and choose Properties.

  4. In the Properties window, choose the Permissions tab.

  5. You should see the user “plex” listed with either read/write or read only permissions.

If you do not see the user plex, stop and let me know.

  1. Check the box for “Apply to this folder & subfolders & files.”

  2. Click OK. The Synology should then check and correct file permissions.

Plex should then have access to the files and be able to play them.

Screenshot from Synology DSM showing user plex with read/write permissions. plex must have read access to play the files.

I checked and it say permission is read and write.

Any solution you could think of? I felt like Plex broke down after a server update (applied for me only). I was using Plex normal but its weird after update. Also sorry for the late respond, I have to prepare for dinner.

Go ahead and set them anyway. Synology can sometimes forget permissions.

Open the properties → permissions page for the Tv folder, click the box next to “Apply to this folder…”, and click OK.

Synology will then set permissions for the folder and everything it contains.

I ducked out for dinner as well. If you had replied sooner I would not have seen it.

Wow fast reply. Still play back error. Btw are you a Plex employees?

I’m not sure why things are not working.

Pull another set of log files and attach to the thread. Maybe they will show what is happening.

Ninja = Plex user like most others on the forum, but with moderator access.
Employees have “Plex Employee” by their name.

First of all, you deserve more than just Ninja. You deserve like super master ninja second of all, here is my log. I also wonder, I understand nothing reading the log, how could you read it lmaoo.
Plex Media Server Logs_2021-07-14_20-12-21.zip (3.3 MB)

wut, it work using vlc at my Mac. Weird.

Ill try to redowload it somewhere else

Also, please check the time setting on the Synology. Make sure it is correct and synchronizing with a NTP server, such as pool.ntp.org.

Login to the NAS. Control Panel → Regional Settings → Time.

Thanks and I’ll try handbrake.

Thanks for all support that y’all give me. I’m thankful and appreciate it. Plex is a bit confused now. I’ll get to y’all when I still need help.

After I messed around with Plex for a bit, uninstall the media server, reinstall it. delete the tv show and re adding it. It is finally working. I no need to use handbrakes no more, it is just a bug or something in the PMS or Plex Player.

I mean, synology does not update automatically. I update the thing manually like last week. I just uninstall and reinstall it. it still not work until I delete the tv show and re add it. then finally it worked.

oh yes, I did the Plex dance twice. I don’t know what is it for or I didn’t see it help anything but thanks.

When Plex scans your files, it adds a hint to it’s own internal database to help identify that file. If you rename your file, that same hint gets reused so it may not change what it got matched to. The Plex Dance removes this information from the database so there is no hint to reuse. If it wasn’t working. you may have missed a step.

Thanks y’all for helping me. Again, thank you so much all of you that helped me.
