PMS Stops Playback Every ~4 Minutes While Watching Live TV

Yep, it has severly regressed since 5080 I believe
I compared it to a Jellyfin and Kodi instance just to check if it’s not my connexion and it’s a flawless experience on both.

On Plex (at least for newer versions)

  • Live TV constantly buffers.
  • Plex HTPC doesn’t want to tune in a channel
  • Plex Android will infinite buffer at some points
  • Plex Web will kill stream after 4 minutes

Rolling back works but since I’m on newer intel CPU I need the new transcoder.

I did some further testing and this problem and the problem of transitioning from one show to the next seems to be fixed too in PlexWeb 4.72.1.

I’ve encountered a similar issue with the playback stopping every 4 minutes or so with Plex 1.25.3.5409 virtualized on a proxmox server. My web client is being run in Firefox and the “alternate streaming protocol” is unchecked.

The TV tuner being used is an Xteve proxy.

I have rolled back to 1.24.3.5033 and the live TV playback has been running continuously for about 20 minutes without interruption. It appears a regression continues to exist in the latest build of Plex.

Rolling back did not fix it for me, using either XTeve or my HDHR tuner. Tried PMS’s on both OSX and my Syno, web client, native OSX Plex client, native Windows client, Android TV client on Sony Bravia and Shield.

LiveTV/DVR is a complete pile of … right now.

It’s not a web client issue though, its a PMS issue – because the timeout error happens on all my clients.

How far did you roll back?

I’ve been staying on 1.24.4.5081 since it was the last stable Live TV version for me.

I have the same playback error issue, so far only with browser playback. Roku and Android play back fine.
I’ve used Edge (Chromium) and Firefox and within four or so minutes of playback the stream will quit and give the playback error.
I find it weird that there is no session under “Now Playing” in the dashboard using the Web player. Roku and Android playback sessions show immediately.

PMS: 1.25.4.5468
Tuners: HDHomeRun DUAL and HDHomeRun EXTEND

For reference, I believe about here (Jan 30, 2022 18:04:59.741 [6528] INFO - [I] ) in the Plex Tuner Service.log is where I started a session and about four minutes later the playback gives an error.

Turn off “Use alternate streaming protocol for video playback” under Plex Web - Debug if you have it on.

Your HTPC client doesn’t tune a channel because the channel probably has AAC audio.

For me debug and alternate streaming protocol were already off.

Post a screenshot of the failed channel on the dashboard when playing on a client that works. I want to see the format that shows up.

I’ve been using the Roku for hours at a time many months without issue. I only noticed the issue today with the web player.

I believe PMS is using the HDHomeRun EXTEND 98% of the time.

Thanks

The version of the webapp that is working is only available from https://app.plex.tv/web , the one that is bundle with the server won’t get the update for some time.

It was working prior to the new transcoder update.
It only happen on Plex, in Jellyfin it works as expected.

I have the same, but unfortunately with movies. The videos run 4-10 min on average and unfortunately it is stop and nothing goes further. Are the movies not working for you too?

That’s besides the point.

Show me a screenshot of the dashboard viewing a problematic channel that doesn’t work on HTPC but works on Android.

I want to see the audio format of the channel that isn’t working on HTPC.

I also have a few OTA channels that refuse to play on Plex Web but play just fine on Roku. It’s not every single channel though. Is it every single channel for you?

Ahh. I didn’t think about trying that, I always forget about https://app.plex.tv/web as I don’t use the web interface to playback content very much.
So far the minimal testing that I’ve done, app.plex.tv works fine.

Thanks for the suggestion.

It seems like most of the 1080 and 720 channels flake with the local PMS web interface but the suggestion from Tiebierius, the https://app.plex.tv/web works fine for me. I guess we will have to wait for the PMS server web interface to be updated for a fix.

Thanks
