Poor Plex metadata for Battlestar Galactica

Battlestar Galactica, using Plex’s TV Series agent’s metadata, is divided into two separate series with one for the miniseries and one for the show proper:

Miniseries: “Battlestar Galactica” (dated as 2003)

Show: “Battlestar Galactica (2003)” (dated as 2005)

This is TMDB’s doing. TVDB is much better organised, with the miniseries as specials for the show:

Please change your metadata and use TVDB for this show. It is ridiculously difficult to manage separated in two: on my own server, Plex will only put ‘33’ and ‘Water’ into “Battlestar Galactica (2003)”, with every other episode shoved into the miniseries’ S1.

Plex also needs to handle miniseries like actual proper series, i.e. placing them in with each season. Better handling of specials between seasons is also important - shows often do canonical specials between seasons, Doctor Who (2005) is a notable one.

Maybe:

My particular problem outside of dissatisfaction with TMDB’s data is that I’m struggling to get it to place things in the right shows:

Hopefully this demonstrates how silly it is to have the miniseries as a separate TV show altogether. If I can figure out a way to get it to accept things properly I’ll report back.

Using the show ID in the folder name and doing the Plex dance sorted it.

Please consider changing the metadata used by the TV Agent! Having “Battlestar Galactica (2003) (2005)” appear in embeds is just ridiculous.

The miniseries appears on TheTVDB in Season 00 (aka “Specials”). You still have them sorted into season 1.

And to use tmdb, a layout like:
